EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

  • 4+ years of experience in private client tax, with significant exposure to trust and estate work in a UK accountancy, legal, or specialist private client environment.
  • Proven ability to manage client relationships and provide a first-class, proactive service.
  • Strong reviewing and supervisory skills, with the ability to support junior staff.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical issues to non-specialists.
  • High level of accuracy, with excellent organisational and time management abilities.
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to identify opportunities for added-value services.
  • Proficient in the use of tax software and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams).

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • ATT and/or STEP qualified (or near completion).
  • CTA qualified or studying (preferred).
  • ACA or ACCA with a strong private client focus will also be considered.
Responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE:

To support the Tax Managers and Partners in the delivery of high-quality private client, trust, and estate compliance and advisory services. The Assistant Manager will manage a portfolio of clients, review work prepared by junior staff, provide technical support to the wider team, and play a key role in the development of the firm’s private client service offering.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage a portfolio of private clients, family trusts, and estates, overseeing compliance and advisory services.
  • Review personal tax and trust tax returns prepared by junior staff, providing feedback and guidance where needed.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients through regular contact and high-quality service delivery.
  • Deal with complex communications from HMRC and liaise with third parties including legal advisors and investment managers.
  • Support the Tax Manager in delivering advisory projects, including inheritance tax planning, estate administration, and trust restructuring.
  • Undertake technical research into complex areas of tax legislation and communicate findings to clients and team members.
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior team members and support their development.
  • Contribute to process improvements and knowledge sharing within the team.
