Job Type: Part-time, from 22.5hrs/week
Salary: £24,465 pro rata, hourly rate of £12.51
Reports to: Practice Manager / Managing Director/ Clinical Director

JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking a friendly, professional and proactive Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our evolving private medical practice. This is a dual-role involving both clinical support and administrative duties, ideal for a candidate who is patient-focused, well-organised, and confident working in a fast-paced private healthcare setting.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting our medical clinicians, nurses, and the practice team to deliver high-quality, personalised care to our patients, while also contributing to the smooth and efficient running of the practice through general admin support.

EXPERIENCE:

Previous experience as an HCA in a GP surgery, primary care or hospital setting (Essential)
Chaperone training/experience in assisting minor surgical procedures (Desirable)
Experience with clinical database systems (Desirable)

QUALIFICATIONS:

GCSEs or equivalent (Essential)
NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent (Desirable)
Phlebotomy or wound care training desirable (Desirable)

SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES:

Strong clinical and interpersonal skills with a professional attitude and appearance (Essential)
Confident, articulate, and professional verbal and written communication (Essential)
Experience in using IT systems and multitasking between clinical/admin duties (Essential)
Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail (Essential)

Computer based system skills and experience-proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Desirable)

Responsibilities

CLINICAL DUTIES:

  • Perform routine clinical tasks such as:
  • Measuring and recording vital signs (BP, pulse, temperature, oxygen saturation)
  • Conducting ECGs, urine dipstick tests, and blood glucose monitoring
  • Assisting with blood tests and phlebotomy (if trained and experienced)
  • Chaperoning patients during examinations and procedures
  • Wound care, dressings, and assisting with minor procedures
  • Ensure clinical specimens are correctly processed and sent

  • Ensure clinical waste (including sharps bins) collection runs smoothly, reporting any issues to the Practice Manager.

  • Provide support to clinical practitioners during consultations and clinics

  • Maintain accurate patient records on the practice system
  • Prepare and clean clinical rooms, ensuring infection control standards are met
  • Restock clinical areas and consulting rooms including equipment and PPE
  • Manage stock levels for clinical supplies and assist with orders as needed
  • Attend and participate in any appropriate practice meetings when required
  • Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES:

  • Welcome patients and support them with queries in person, over email and by phone
  • Manage appointment bookings and recalls using the practice’s clinical system
  • Ensure patient records are up-to-date, and filed correctly
  • Assist with the processing of test results, prescriptions, and referrals
  • Liaise with external providers (labs, hospitals, private specialists)
