WILL COVER VACATIONS AND ABSENCES AT SOUTH BROADWAY AND LC EAST LOCATIONS SUMMARY:  The Laboratory Assistant, under direction of the Laboratory Director, enhances and extends the productivity of Clinical Laboratory Scientists by performing patient accommodative services including phlebotomy, specimen receipt, specimen processing and technical procedures as assigned; assumes other duties and responsibilities as directed by Supervisor.  PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Formal training which will probably be indicated by a high school diploma or equivalent; two years experience as a laboratory assistant, phlebotomist, laboratory aide/processor or handler; excellent verbal communication skills.  PHYSICAL GUIDELINES: Physical guidelines include the ability to move, traverse, position self, remain in a stationary position and negotiate steps for up to eight hours per day; mobility, exposure to hazardous/bio-hazardous materials; manual dexterity and motor coordination; read and understand medical information, visual and auditory acuity; distinguish colors; maneuver objects weighing up to 20 pounds.  NOTE: This document is intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed.
