Position Title PRN-Perinatal Sonographer Olathe Medical Pavilion C, UKH Olathe Pavilion Main Campus Position Summary / Career Interest: The Perinatal Sonographer I utilizes high frequency sound waves along with color and spectral Doppler ultrasound to assist in the monitoring and growth during pregnancy. The sonographers within KU's OB/GYN MFM Department are leading the region with their practices. Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions Performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures as prescribed by a physician including: positions patients for the proper view of the affected area; selects the appropriate scan images to be recorded; obtains essential information from patients, medical records and previous scans for clinical correlation. Instructs patients about the proper physiological requirements for the procedure; helps patient transfer to exam table and ensures adequate patient immobilization to perform the scan; knows how to change scanning parameters to improve a scan. Obtains diagnostic sonographic images by scanning the appropriate body part of the patient with the transducer; provides documentation of ultrasound exam sufficient for physicians to interpret. Assists physicians with ultrasound guided procedures. May participate in student and physician education. Maintains work area to include medical supplies for procedures. Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department. Required Education and Experience High School Graduate Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program which meets requirements by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (A.R.D.M.S.) Required Licensure and Certification Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) Active OB/GYN RDMS certification or RDMS credential must be earned within 90 days of first date of employment within 90 Days Preferred Licensure and Certification Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) credential in Abdomen Specialty Exam Knowledge Requirements Ability to train in areas of competency Time Type: Part time Job Requisition ID: R-40389 Important information for you to know as you apply: The health system is an equal employment opportunity employer.
