Description
Description Plans and delivers effective nursing care to the surgical patient in ambulatory surgery center OR and during Pre-Op, Perioperative and PACU phases until the patient is released from the facility. This specific position will work based on staffing availability. There are no minimum or maximum hours requirements in this as-needed (PRN) position. Requirements Essential Functions: Contacts and gives patient Pre-Op instructions and provides information on procedures. Conducts complete patient assessment and evaluation of each patient prior to surgery. Performs necessary preoperative testing and administers pre-operative medications as prescribed. Starts peripheral IV access as needed. Prepares the OR adequately before cases with all necessary supplies and equipment. Performs positioning prepping and draping the patient. Obtains and records all pertinent clinical information relating to the procedure. Reviews charts for patient history. Ensures all required written and computer documentation, forms and patient medical records are completed in a timely manner. Oversees instrument and equipment set up and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. Performs duties of the circulating or scrub role in the OR. Monitors patient during the post operative period. Ensures that patients receive discharge instructions. Conducts follow up calls with patients. Restocks the Surgery Center and monitor par levels. Performs sterilization of instruments. Ensures that all documentation within the center meets regulatory standards. Performs all other duties as assigned by management. Knowledge Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of operating room, PACU, pre-operative standards and techniques. Ability to function effectively as a team member. Knowledge of current practice of decontamination, high level disinfection and sterilization procedures. Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to collaborate with physicians, staff and management. Ability to perform effectively in stressful and emergency situations. Ability to manage multiple priorities. Education and Experience: Prior Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) and Operating Room (OR) experience strongly preferred. Certifications/Licensure: Current RN Licensure required Current ACLS/BLS required
