Job Details Job Location: Elkton, VA 22827 Job Description: Speech Language Pathologist Specialist (SLPS) Reports to: Clinical Manager (CM) and Middle Level Management (MLM) JOB SUMMARY: The Speech Language Pathologist Specialist organizes, conducts, develops, and provides training/education on Speech Language programs for ORTS to facilitate rehabilitation. He/she directs client participation in selected tasks and serves as a mentor, to restore, reinforce, and enhance performance, as prudent practice dictates. Also, the Speech Language Pathologist Specialist facilitates the learning of those skills and functions essential for cognition, communication and swallowing, to diminish or correct pathology, utilizing and assisting with the establishment of best practice intervention strategies. He/she directs activities to promote clients functioning at their maximum potential. A SLPS provides training/education/mentoring to peers to insure they maintain and/or improve a client’s, health while providing high quality care/training in a positive, professional, and respectful manner. Essential Functions: Carries out all job duties of a Speech Language Pathologist. Makes recommendations to his/her peers regarding the provision of Speech Language Pathology (SLP) services when requested by MLM and/or Upper Level Management (ULM,) as prudent practice dictates. Provides trainings and/or in-services to peers, center staff, and customers, regarding SLP services, as directed by MLM and/or ULM. Under extraordinary circumstances, will function as an SLP in sites throughout his/her assigned region, as directed by MLM and/or ULM. Assists with the development of SLP Service-Related Programs throughout the company, as directed by MLM and/or ULM. Serves as an official SLP Mentor throughout the company for new SLP hires, as directed by MLM and/or ULM, with onsite visits and cotreatments made with Mentee, as prudent practice dictates. Supervises Clinical Fellow Year (CFY) SLPs, as directed by MLM and/or ULM, in accordance with state and professional standards. Leads by example, putting customer service first: ensures that residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individual's needs and rights. Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS: The Speech Language Pathologist Specialist must be licensed and/or eligible for licensure as required in the state of practice. He/she must possess a master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology or related area. It is strongly recommended that the SLPS have a minimum of five (5) years of experience working as an SLP. He/she must possess or be eligible for a Certificate of Clinical Competency from the American Speech/ Language/Hearing Association or be eligible to participate as a Clinical Fellow. He/she must be able and willing to practice Speech Language Pathology per state guidelines. Must possess good organizational and time management skills. Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
