JOB SUMMARY

We are looking for a Procedural Data and Registry Officer to join the Journal Office at the House of Lords. This is a position where you will be part of the team responsible for managing and enriching data, information and advice about the business and membership of the House of Lords, to be used by members of the House, the House Administration, academics and the media.
On a day-to-day basis, you might be supporting this work by maintaining databases and records, providing data and statistical information or contributing to data and system improvement. You’ll also have the opportunity to regularly support other areas of the Journal Office, providing career development and improving business resilience – which could include assisting in the administration of Lord Speaker elections or supporting the production and indexing of the House of Lords Journal.
This is an opportunity to work on a hybrid basis where you will be able to work from home between 1-2 days a week, dependent on business needs. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, who possesses strong data and analytical skills and can work as part of a small team.

JOB DESCRIPTION

You’ll be accountable for –

  • Keeping electronic and other records accurate and up to date.
  • Manipulating data extracted from Procedural Centre systems in order to respond to requests for statistics from other offices
  • Developing a detailed understanding of the systems used by the team and how they relate to other systems across Parliament.
  • Supporting working groups to assist with the development and testing of new systems, especially focussing on reporting tools used analysing statistics and tracking House of Lords Business.
  • Supporting other core functions of the Journal Office.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Personal effectiveness including strong administrative and organisational skills and ability to work quickly under pressure while maintaining a high level of accuracy.

  • Data and digital skills such as the ability to understand, manipulate, enrich and analyse data and being IT literate.


  • Team-work and collaboration such as experience of working effectively with others as part of a team, demonstrating reliability, a flexible approach to work, and adapting to a range of situations, individuals and groups.

  • Professionalism, tact and discretion with the ability to maintain a professional, impartial approach in a highly pressurised political environment.

  • Understanding of the workings of Parliament including knowledge of the basic role and workings of the House of Lords in particular.
