JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The procedural specialist will provide clinical support to physicians and staff in OBLs, ASCs, and/or hospitals by assisting with procedures and surgeries as directed by the physician and according to established procedures and protocols. The procedural specialist will also work closely with interventional cardiology (IC), interventional radiology (IR), and vascular surgery (VS) team members including IC/IR/VS physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and patient care technicians. The procedural specialist will have a thorough understanding of departmental policies and procedures and be able to apply them to their specific role. This position requires knowledge of vascular access devices, venous ultrasound, peripherally inserted central catheters, IVUS, and deep venous stenting.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 2 years experience in cath lab or OBL.
  • Knowledge of human anatomy, medical terminology, physiology, and pathophysiology.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Basic knowledge of vascular ultrasound, fluoroscopy, angioplasty, stenting, and thrombolysis.
  • Ability to use X-ray generating equipment and radiation safety practices.
  • Understanding of common safety hazards and precautions.
  • Team dynamics.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Problem solving skills.

Responsibilities
  • Assists physicians and other clinical staff during procedures and surgery by providing and maintaining supplies, equipment, and instruments necessary for procedures and surgeries; ensures proper operation of all equipment and instruments.
  • Maintains adequate levels of inventory and supplies, orders new supplies when needed, and assists with purchasing decisions.
  • Participates in pre-procedure huddles and provides input regarding patient needs.
  • Observes patients’ conditions and informs the physician or RN of any changes or concerns.
  • Reviews case files to ensure that all pertinent information is available on each patient prior to the start of each procedure/surgery.
  • Coordinates the needs of the physician and the patient in accordance with hospital policy and initiative.
  • Maintains professional communication at all times with both internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span by completing continuing education program.
