Process Design Engineer II
Judd Wire is seeking a Process Design Engineer whose main role will be to develop new processes to support the production of new and modified products within the Automotive, Aerospace and Electronic industries. This position will work closely with Design Engineers, R&D Engineers, Wire and Cable Equipment Suppliers, Product Managers, Marketing and Quality Assurance to support the development of new electrical wire products. The incumbent’s major responsibility will be to deliver the overall manufacturing process design, from start to finish, all while implementing value-add activities to improve product design for manufacturability. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a technical approach to solving problems through use of proven engineering principles & theories; Possess the ability to successfully participate on cross-functional teams through effective communication, and positively engage with operators, area supervisors and technical leads on the production floor.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At minimum a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or related Engineering field required.
  • Six Sigma Certified – Yellow belt (minimum)
  • 5 – 12 years of experience as an Industrial, Manufacturing or Process Engineer in a new product and process development environment for high volume manufacturing.
  • Experience in designing advanced manufacturing processes such as extrusion, wire drawing, bunching, cabling, electron beam irradiation is preferred.
  • Must demonstrate through action a solid understanding and exposure to Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma principles and Statistical Process Control preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal.
  • Solid understanding of APQP tools such as FMEA, Control Plans & Process Flow to satisfy TS16949 and AS9100 requirements.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Proficient with Minitab, Excel, PowerPoint and Word a must.

Responsibilities
  • Significantly impact product designs throughout the new product development phases to promote positive yields and defect free manufacture at time of product launch.
  • Develop new and/or improved manufacturing processes and testing methods that are required to achieve the performance and cost requirement of the new product application
  • Lead the successful launch of new products from the process design perspective through all phases of new product development
  • Setting up and evaluating new technologies and equipment for process development and improvement.
  • Lead the development of documents such as PFMEA, Control Plan, Process Flow and participating in other related APQP activities as related to new product development.
  • Work with equipment suppliers to ensure resulting processes are capable, have sufficient controls in place, and perform as intended during equipment buyoff / acceptance testing.
  • Maintaining a strong presence on the production floor while positively influencing and building relationships with shop floor members and operations staff.
  • Identify and correct problems through use of root cause problem solving skills along with experimental approaches such as DOE, 5-Y, MSA, fishbone diagram, etc.
  • Perform all other similar or related duties as assigned by supervisor.
