Description

Job Summary: We are hiring a seasoned Process Engineer to join our automotive manufacturing client’s team located approximately 20-25 minutes west of Markham! This role focuses on the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes and equipment for automotive hinge and mechanism production. The ideal candidate will be highly proficient in SolidWorks, possess deep expertise in DFM/DFA and GD&T, and have hands-on experience with metal forming, welding, and precision manufacturing. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to lead cross-functional initiatives are essential. This position plays a key role in supporting process innovation and quality within a fast-paced, high-volume production environment.
Job Location: 20–25 minutes west of Markham, ON.
Job Type: Full-time, permanent.
Compensation Structure: $80,000-$100,000 per annum, depending on experience + benefits + RRSP match up to 3% after 6 months of employment & 5% after 1 year with the company.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

· University Degree or College Diploma in Industrial, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering/Technologist from a Canadian institution or recognized equivalent. Mechatronics minor or equivalent experience is an asset.
· Actively pursuing P. Eng. designation in Canada.
· 5+ years of relevant experience in process or manufacturing engineering within the automotive or high-precision manufacturing sectors.
· Hands-on familiarity with manufacturing methods such as stamping, forging, machining, welding (especially vibratory welding), injection/co-molding, and heat treatment processes—particularly in the context of hinge production.
· Proficient in SolidWorks for 3D modeling and drafting of components, machinery and work cells.
· Familiarity with Key Creator is also an asset.
· Deep understanding of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFM/DFA) principles, especially within automotive body-in-white (BIW) processes.
· Proficient in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and stack-up analysis to ensure quality and fit across high-volume production.
· Familiar with stamping, forging, machining, welding, and heat treatment processes relevant to hinge production.

· Skilled in using FMEA, 8D, and Six Sigma tools to troubleshoot design/manufacturing issues, especially in high-precision components like hinges.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical report writing and professional email etiquette. Fluency in English required.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and experienced in using production reporting systems in an automotive manufacturing environment.
  • Willing and able to travel as needed to support operations and project requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for retrieving and monitoring assigned work center performance, maintaining, updating and presenting monthly open issues, participating in continuous improvement opportunities on new/existing equipment, using data to support findings
  • Responsible for the ordering of new equipment to the Mechanisms Group Machine, Tooling and Programming specifications, coordinating the development, delivery and integration while working with internal stakeholders to ensure equipment complies with all financial and manufacturing/layout requirements. Travel locally and internationally (as required) to participate in onsite meetings and acceptance trials
  • Attend quote meetings and/or develop internal detailed costed equipment quotes, review/revise with management and distribute approved copies, speak to and support costing provided, quotes may be based on existing data or budgetary costs provided
  • Issue RFQ’s to vendors conveying requirements, assembly process steps, adequate specifications and requirements, etc. to ensure a robust detailed quote response, while addressing/pursuing responses to vendor questions. Develop with the Packaging Engineer internal and external packaging required
  • Thoroughly review vendors quotes and ensure they meet the RFQ requirements, request clarification as required and challenge/justify cost
  • Hold and champion open issues meetings internal and external, schedule, document meeting minutes, assign and follow-up on tasks in various departments
  • Support customer visits during run at rate and assembly plants (as required) in a highly professional manner always understanding your audience and being an ambassador of the department, division and corporation
  • Develop capital approval packages and follow-up on approval, issue/pursue approval of purchase orders, seek approval of invoices and work within an established program or divisional budget
  • Support the development of in-line plastics processing technologies such as vibratory welding and injection/co-molding, assist in the creation of lineside documentation to establish a turnkey stabile process would be an asset and if applicable to a project
  • Ensure that a PHSR, ergonomic and environmental assessment (if applicable) is completed and is documented on new equipment
  • Investigate potential vendors for new processes, parts handling technologies and equipment, pursue nondisclosure agreements and work with the Mechanisms Group to ensure vendors are reviewed and are viable
  • Work with equipment vendors to coordinate training sessions of involved departments and personnel
  • Participate in/lead various program related meetings, GEAR Program, Continuous Improvement initiatives, KAIZEN and Gemba’s, perform LPA’s, be involved with TPM’s and support J.H.S.C. activities
  • Work closely with various departments
  • Complete tasks as assigned by ECN’s, DMN’s, Launch Open Issues, Quality Open Issues, Flawless Launch, etc. providing evidence and acknowledge their closure
  • Responsible for developing process related documentation, such as setup and changeover instructions, operator instructions, process flow diagrams, safety and lockout, dummy parts, process parameters and assisting in developing PFMEA’s
  • Responsible for developing/maintaining/investigating process capability with supporting departments, time studies on manual processes and equipment and investigate bottlenecks
  • Ability to review and revise prepared materials for correctness to minimize errors and ensure clarity
  • Support and back-up fellow team members as required, become knowledgeable in the packaging cost development process
  • Hands on approach when dealing with front line supervisors, lead hands and operators
  • Knowledge of Core Tools in used in the Automotive Industry would be an asset
  • Responsible for saving, filing and archiving of departmental documentation
  • Perform other duties as required (i.e. special projects)
