Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
- 15-20% (+/-) in North America.
- Some international travel may be required.
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
- B.S. in Engineering (Ceramics, Chemical or Materials preferred)
REQUIRED YEARS AND AREA OF EXPERIENCE:
- 2+ years’ experiences in process engineering, glass or material engineering is preferred.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Strong data analysis and statistical skills. Experience with statistical packages such as Minitab and JMP. Strong computer skills, including ability to analyze data using Excel and Access.
- Strong mastery of fundamental engineering concepts with demonstrated ability to apply to manufacturing problems.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize work on an independent basis in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Able to execute assignments with minimal supervision.
- Able to collaborate with varied levels and functions within the organization, including manufacturing, technology, R&D, operations, procurement, IT, and supply chain.
- Highly motivated, results oriented, and customer focused, with a high commitment level.
DESIRED SKILLS:
- Knowledge of glass or ceramic manufacturing.
- Prior experience moving a new product or process from development into manufacturing. Statistical analysis experience.
- Six Sigma DMAIC experience.

Responsibilities:
- Use fundamental engineering concepts to drive capability advancements in glassmaking processes. Lead capacity, cost reduction, and process improvement projects that have division-wide implication.
- Work between technology and plant manufacturing organizations to ensure smooth deployment of new technologies, products, and processes by identifying and and/or leading implementation of required capabilities.
- Collaborate with global manufacturing sites to coordinate and solve glassmaking-related issues and concerns.
- Participate in site-to-site standards and governance effort. This includes identifying, auditing, and driving compliance to governed process parameters across sites.
