Teck is looking for an experienced Process Engineer to join our team at our Trail Operations, one of the world’s largest fully integrated zinc and lead smelting and refining complexes. Reporting to the Metallurgy and Technology Manager, or designate, the Process Engineer is accountable for the improvement, maintenance, and alignment of the Trail Metallurgical Model (TMM) and providing metallurgical and/or technical support to process development initiatives. We require someone who is self-motivated, has strong problem-solving skills, knowledgeable in extractive metallurgy knowledge, and has a passion for continuous improvement.
This role is based in the welcoming community of Trail, situated in the beautiful West Kootenay region of southeastern British Columbia. Here you will find outdoor adventure at your fingertips! QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University degree in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering or related field strongly preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Minimum of 5 years’ working experience in metallurgical or chemical Industry
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in metallurgical simulation
  • Experience with SysCAD software preferred
  • Experience with data management and analysis tools (i.e. PowerBI, databricks) considered an asset
  • Applicants need to be eligible for registration or registered with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C. (“EGBC”) as this will be a condition of employment. Teck will support eligible employees with their EGBC registration
  • Practical and theoretical knowledge of pyro-, hydro- or electro-metallurgical processes and related technologies
  • Experience with HSC and metallurgical simulation software considered an asset
  • Good project management skills; experience with MS Project an asset
  • Good critical thinking, data and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication skills including verbal, written and presentation skills
  • Proven ability to work effectively both independently and in a team-based environment
  • Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities
  • Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills

Responsibilities
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Support the maintenance and continuous improvement of a Safe and Healthy working environment through personal commitment to the principles of the Trail Operations Safety and Health Policy, and ensure personal compliance with the specific Safety & Health System responsibilities
  • Collaborate with other Trail Operations groups to obtain and collate data and information required for the Trail Metallurgical Model
  • Design sampling and laboratory test work campaigns to align the Trail Metallurgical Model with the plant operation and improve implementation of the plant fundamentals in the Trail Metallurgical Model
  • Maintain and improve individual plant modules as required. Troubleshoot and resolve Trail Metallurgical Model issues
  • Use the Trail Metallurgical Model to support plant troubleshooting and process development projects
  • Document the development, fundamentals and utilization of Trail Metallurgical Model
  • Participate in process improvement and development initiatives as assigned.
  • Collaborate and facilitate exchange of information and expertise with other Trail Operations groups
