PURPOSE OF ROLE
Symbient is designing, fabricating and deploying pilot scale research reactors for the purpose of process development, technology validation and techno-economic assessment of our technology in both simulated and operational environments. The Process Engineer or Senior Process Engineer will be hands-on, serving as the reactor team leader, responsible for the operation of the pilot plants, supervision of operators, commissioning pilot systems and leading the team through down time stages of preventive maintenance and reactor preparation. The successful candidate will become a process chemistry subject matter expert and lead the execution of pilot experiments and project management.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of Symbient assets at the pilot facility. Supervise the reactor team to ensure work is carried out safely, and that all relevant SOPs, laws and regulations are followed. Complete and submit required logs and situation reports in a timely manner.
Responsible for documentation of process knowledge, knowledge transfer and training of pilot plant operators. Lead the execution of pilot scale experiments for process development and technology validation. Compile and analyze process data. Prepare research reports to document experimental activities and outcomes.
Collaborate with senior Symbient technical staff and academic partners, to plan the pilot scale experimental test plans and protocols. Provide experimental data sets obtained from the pilot studies to support the development and or validation of computer simulation process models as well as the technoeconomic assessment of the process.
Serve as project manager for all pilot scale demonstration studies and initiatives; create project plans, proactively engage stakeholders, secure permits and ensure regulatory compliance for Symbient activities.
Engage with engineering teams and partners as a reactor/process subject matter expert. Participate in hazards and operability studies and support design phases of capital projects.
Lead the commissioning of new pilot systems. Work with technicians, engineers, stakeholders and vendors to bring assets online. Participate in pre-start health and safety reviews if required. Lead the preventive maintenance and reactor preparation for pilot experiments.
Depending on training and experience, either lead or support the development of proprietary computer models for process simulation, to support process development and reactor design.
