THE OPPORTUNITY:

Tetra Tech is looking to add a (remote) Process Engineer to our team. Preference given to candidates in the following locations, Pittsburgh PA, Virginia Beach VA, Jacksonville FL, Collinsville IL, Atlanta GA, New York, NY, Philadelphia PA, Houston TX.

  • Bachelorʼs degree in chemical or mechanical engineering.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience of progressive experience in process design.
  • Fundamental understanding of process design and environmental/water treatment systems, is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interpret and develop both written technical documents and tabular presentation of data is required.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing process flow diagrams (PFD), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), and process design packages for procurement and construction.
  • Experience with assessment and cleanup governed by CERCLA on Federal projects highly desired.
  • Knowledge of process design software such as Aspen and Pipe-Flo is required.
  • Experience working closely with both mechanical engineering and construction is required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) is highly desired. PMP Certification a plus.
  • Valid Driverʼs License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft software, including Excel, Word and Project.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Position requires periodic travel, approximately up to 25%.
  • Current HAZWOPER certification is desirable.
  • Strong work ethic and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This remote position provides technical support, primarily related to PFAS, on environmental characterization and remediation projects and proposals for federal, state, commercial and industrial clients. The successful candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary dynamic team of engineers and scientists engaged in a wide range of projects providing planning, design and engineering services for commercial, industrial and government clients. The candidate will support the planning, execution, and management of complex projects and complex field programs. This position requires the ability to evaluate chemical distribution and transport through soils, groundwater, surface water, and sediment to reach sound technical conclusions and present/document findings. This position will plan and conduct (with supervision by project management) tasks such as pilot tests and treatability studies, engineering design of treatment systems, construction oversight, operation, and maintenance (O&M), and report writing on projects.

  • Perform a range of tasks requiring utilization of scientific and engineering analytical techniques, in the development of cost-effective strategies for process systems (e.g. groundwater treatment).
  • Work closely with and direct as needed technical staff including CADD/GIS operators, designers, technicians, and field personnel.
  • Task management, including planning and implementing investigation and remediation projects, design and implementation, trouble shooting and optimization of remediation engineering projects, budgeting and budget management, adherence to schedule, quality, client satisfaction, and profitability.
  • Work as a part of a team to prepare work packages and develop remedial solutions for various government, commercial, and industrial sites for conventional contaminants (fuels, VOCs, metals) as well as emerging contaminants (PFAS, 1,4-Dioxane). The work packages include but not limited to remedial designs, specifications, and drawings; work plans; technical memorandum; data evaluation reports; cost estimates.
  • Support project managers and subject matter experts in evaluation of emerging and innovative technologies via research, design and testing of emergent technologies, including PFAS.
  • Support the development, planning, and implementation of process designs for projects including environmental remedial cleanups, water/wastewater treatment, and other mechanical systems.
  • Contribute to proposal efforts by preparing cost estimates and text to address client needs for process systems.
  • Develop technical specifications, scopes and cost estimates to support procurement of subcontractors as needed.
  • Perform field inspections and oversight activities at client sites. The candidate must be willing to work safely and abide by all safety guidelines of both Tetra Tech Inc. and the client.
  • Expectation of obtaining Professional Engineer registrations, if not already held.
  • Other duties may be assigned as determined appropriate by the supervisor based on level of experience.
  • Working closely with other engineering disciplines including civil, structural, mechanical/process, and electrical engineering to produce successful projects.
  • Prepare all work product in accordance with Tetra Tech QA/QC programs and professional engineering standards.
  • As required provide marketing and business development support to proposal leads.
