Description Job title: Process Operator I Reports to: Shift Production Manager Direct reports N/A Back up position: Designated Process Operator I / Process Operator II Department: 0400 - Extruded Production Work location: Evansville, Indiana Exempt/Non-Exempt Non-Exempt Job Description date: 03/16/2023 I - Job Purpose and Summary: The Process Operator I is responsible for controlling and executing elements of the process including raw material and finished goods logistics; process addition and mixing of raw materials, and packaging process responsibility including monitoring of critical control points and ensuring finished goods packaging and pallets meet customer expectations. The role holder will have significant levels of autonomy to make decisions and solve problems around the process. These will include setup, operation, routine preventative maintenance, and sanitation of equipment and areas of responsibility. Objectives include safely providing the highest quality product within specifications with the least amount of waste and ensuring that the plant is available to always meet the planned production levels while ensuring strict compliance to Health and Safety and housekeeping requirements. II - Key Accountabilities: HSE: Promote a safe work environment at all times through the adherence to all PGPI’s Health & Safety and Environmental policies and procedures as well as to all relevant Indiana OSHA regulations in order to achieve ZERO workplace incidents and injuries. Responsible for working safely to ensure ZERO injuries or major incidents to themselves or others complying with all safety policies and procedures including lock out tag out. To stop production where people and/or food safety are at risk and perform safety audits as required to ensure continuous improvement around safety and take action to correct any problems or discrepancies. Take direction from the respective line Technician in order to meet the needs of success in Production. To safely provide the highest quality product within specifications with the least amount of waste. Execute detailed instructions and standards for raw material addition to process, and for finished goods packaging. Minimize changeover times to increase equipment utilization and other continuous improvement activities. Follow Good Manufacturing Practices and ensure ZERO food safety or contamination incidents within area of responsibility. Conduct routine quality checks of in-process and final product samples to ensure quality specifications are being met. Be attentive to product quality throughout the shift and communicate with the line Technician in a timely manner so that product quality is maintained. Lead in developing, writing, reviewing, and using Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) for areas of responsibility or knowledge and complete all production paperwork and data recording in a timely manner with great attention to accuracy. This role routinely uses manufacturing equipment. The environment is hot, cold, dusty and loud. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment on the manufacturing floor (hearing protection, hard hat, safety glasses, beard/hair nets, safety shoes). Physical and Sensory Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms overhead and grip; climb stairs; talk or hear, work from heights up to 40 feet. The employee must occasionally lift or move products and supplies, up to 55 pounds.
