: Senior Process Safety Engineer
: Calgary, AB
: Monday to Friday (at the office)
: 6 months contract
Our client, a major Oil and Gas company, is looking for a Process Safety Engineer to join their team on a 3-6-month contract in Calgary.
The Process Safety Engineer is responsible for ensuring the safety and integrity of process systems in compliance with industry regulations and best practices. The role involves conducting and facilitating Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), identifying potential risks, and implementing safety measures to prevent incidents. The ideal candidate will be proficient in various PHA methodologies and safety analysis tools to assess and mitigate hazards in high-risk environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and facilitate Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) sessions using techniques such as HAZOP, HAZID, What-if, and Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA).
  • Evaluate safety risks associated with chemical processes and develop recommendations to mitigate risks and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Utilize and interpret data using specialized safety software tools such as PHA Pro and DNV PHAST for the analysis of hazards and the modeling of potential consequences from process safety incidents (e.g., toxic releases, explosions, etc.).
  • Ensure that process safety management systems align with local, national, and international regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA, ISO standards).
  • Work with engineering teams, operations personnel, and safety professionals to design and implement effective process safety strategies.
  • Prepare and review detailed reports, safety analysis documentation, and mitigation plans, ensuring that all documentation is clear, accurate, and complies with regulatory requirements.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry developments and incorporate new techniques and technologies to improve process safety performance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or related field.
  • Extensive experience facilitating PHAs using HAZOP, HAZID, What-if, and LOPA techniques.
  • Advanced proficiency in PHA Pro and DNV PHAST software.
  • Strong understanding of process safety management (PSM) principles and relevant industry regulations.

Job Types: Fixed term contract, Casual
Contract length: 6 months
Pay: $70.00-$80.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per wee
