JOB DESCRIPTION

Primary Purpose:
This position requires a thorough knowledge of the plastic packaging industry and its related platforms. Expertise should exist in two of the three following areas: Injection blow molding, one-step blow molding, or two-step blow molding. This individual will possess knowledge of plastic packaging Industry standards. Experience in the areas of tooling, quality, and process development is a must. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of maintenance, engineering, or production management experience. In addition, they will possess a mechanical, technical, and process aptitude.
The preferred leadership skill of this candidate includes ability to foster teamwork and continuous improvement within an empowered environment.

Education and Experience:

  • Requires high school diploma or equivalent. Some post-secondary education preferred (i.e., technical or vocational education).
  • Previous work experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
Responsibilities
  • Abides by all Amcor safety and quality policies and procedures.
  • Develop and enforce the process structure for each area in the plant. This includes entire plant process, from the warehouse to finished product being loaded onto trucks.
  • Develop and maintain best in class (BIC) Processes.
  • Develop machine criteria for plastic processes.
  • Install blow mold tooling.
  • Perform start-ups of new equipment, tooling and processes.
  • Perform design of experiments to establish process parameters.
  • Produce sample containers as necessary.
  • Optimize process parameters based on container performance.
  • Establish process control parameters.
  • Support and establish machine process parameters to achieve optimum quality containers.
  • Work with QA to measure containers and/or preforms to confirm physical characteristics and establish performance capabilities.
  • Develop package specifications.
  • Responsible for communicating quality and/or required equipment maintenance issues to management for prompt disposition.
  • Review test data and compare it with the Tentative Performance Specifications.
  • Recommend design modifications and process improvements, if required, to meet the Tentative Performance Specifications.
  • Prepare final report to include Process Set-up Sheets and recommended Process Control Parameters.
  • Share plastic processing and mechanical knowledge with machine operators and maintenance personnel at all levels to provide continuous training and promote teamwork.
  • Share best in class data with other Amcor facilities, as necessary.
  • Start-up and validate new products.
  • Visit customers to validate container functionality, as necessary.
  • Must work with plant management/supervisors to establish a repeatable process for containers.
  • Continuously improve process related trouble shooting tools.
  • Drive and assist in the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Work Instructions (WI).
  • Assist in the training of other maintenance, production, and other personnel in areas of expertise to include standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions (WIs).
  • Audit the process and the structure.
  • Provide leadership and direction to direct reports (MPT’s) in establishing and maintaining BIC processes and driving continuous improvement.
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
