About the Company Hiring: Our client is a transportation & logistics company with HQ in Buffalo, NY.
About the Job: We are seeking a Director of Procurement to lead strategic sourcing and procurement initiatives across a diverse range of operational and capital expenditures. This role is responsible for managing an annual spend of $200+ million across materials, fuel, safety supplies, parts, equipment, and services. The Procurement Director will work closely with cross-functional teams to optimize supplier relationships, improve processes, and support organizational goals.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain management, engineering, or related discipline.
  • 7–10+ years of experience in strategic procurement, with at least 3+ years in a leadership or management role.
  • Strong knowledge of procurement practices, contract negotiation, and relevant regulations.
Responsibilities
  • Strategic Sourcing (40%)
  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies to reduce Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and Total Delivered Cost.
  • Build strong vendor partnerships, identify alternative suppliers, and evaluate sourcing decisions based on strategic impact and market conditions.
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering, and management teams to align procurement practices with organizational needs.
  • Monitor market trends impacting pricing, supply, and logistics.
  • Evaluate vendor proposals using best-practice purchasing techniques focused on value and risk management.
  • Lead supplier negotiations to meet or exceed business objectives.
  • Procurement Process Management (40%)
  • Oversee day-to-day procurement operations, including staff management and development.
  • Establish and enforce procurement policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Build and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure optimal quality, pricing, and service.
  • Conduct vendor performance reviews and drive improvement initiatives.
  • Define quality standards and resolve supply-related issues with vendors and internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure procurement strategies and vendor partnerships support organizational ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) objectives.
  • Process Improvement (20%)
  • Lead initiatives to enhance procurement efficiency and minimize waste across the supply chain.
  • Gather feedback from internal stakeholders to refine procurement strategies and execution.
  • Expand the supplier network by engaging in demos, workshops, and professional networking opportunities.
  • Internal Control Responsibilities
  • Ensure purchases are approved in accordance with pre-defined authorization limits and comply with company standards, including the Code of Business Conduct and Ethics, Trade Compliance, and Anti-Corruption policies.
  • Key Relationships
  • Frequent interaction with executives, operations managers, warehouse managers, and engineering teams across multiple locations.
