Description

COMPANY SUMMARY

At Big Block Construction, we’re on a mission to revolutionize the way multi-unit and mixed-use housing is built across Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and British Columbia. By advancing internal capacity for organizations, we’re helping build stronger communities—one project at a time.
We are seeking an exceptional Procurement Manager to join our team. This is more than a purchasing role; it’s an opportunity to build and scale a procurement function that drives cost optimization, strengthens supplier networks, and ensures our projects are delivered with excellence.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • 10+ years in procurement (multi-family residential, commercial/industrial construction, or manufacturing)
  • Proven success in fast-paced, high-growth environments
  • Deep expertise in negotiation and vendor management
  • Strong background in supply chain logistics, budgeting, tendering, and contracts
  • Experience balancing strategic planning with hands-on execution across jurisdictions
  • Collaborative mindset with proven success working cross-functionally with Design, Project Managers, and Finance

EDUCATION

Successful previous experience is most important. Any of the following would be an asset:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Commerce, Construction Management, or Engineering
  • A diploma/certificate in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Estimating, or Project Management
  • A professional designation such as SCMP (Supply Chain Management Professional)
Responsibilities

WHAT YOU’LL DO

As our Procurement Manager, you will:

  • Develop trade tender packages aligned with budgets, timelines, and coordinated designs
  • Ensure all scopes, assumptions, and exclusions are crystal-clear and contract-ready
  • Lead the full procurement cycle: bid solicitation, evaluation, negotiation, and award
  • Prepare cost analysis documents
  • Negotiate bulk pricing, master agreements, and long-term vendor partnerships
  • Implement scalable procurement systems, tools, and processes across jurisdictions
  • Build forecasting models to anticipate supply and cost trends
  • Maintain and expand a reliable subcontractor and supplier network across Western Canada
  • Evaluate vendors
  • Deliver clear procurement handoffs to Project Managers with full scope and contract details
  • Foster relationships that uphold health & safety, company values, and performance culture
  • Conduct debriefs with Project Managers and stakeholders to improve future cycles

You’ll thrive in this role if:

  • You’re a galvanizer and negotiator – building trust with trades and suppliers while securing favourable outcomes.
  • You’re detail-focused and analytical – catching scope gaps, exclusions, and numbers others miss.
  • You’re results-driven – motivated by cost savings, reliable vendor networks, and smoother project delivery
