POSITION SUMMARY:

As the Produce Assistant Department Manager, you will support the Produce Department Manager in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the produce section within the grocery store. You will help ensure the department is well-stocked, clean, fresh, and merchandised to meet store standards. You will also assist in supervising and coaching team members to deliver excellent customer service and maintain food safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the ordering, receiving, and stocking of fresh fruits and vegetables.
  • Ensure all produce displays are attractive, clean, and rotated regularly to maintain freshness.
  • Support inventory control by minimizing shrink and monitoring product quality and expiration.
  • Help lead and motivate the produce team to achieve department goals and provide top-tier customer service.
  • Support the Department Manager in scheduling, delegating tasks, and ensuring daily routines are followed.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and food handling regulations.
  • Address customer inquiries and resolve complaints in a professional and timely manner.
  • Monitor pricing, signage, and promotional execution in the department.
  • Step in for the Produce Department Manager as required.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in retail grocery, preferably in produce or fresh departments.
  • Strong knowledge of produce items, quality standards, and food safety.
  • Ability to lift heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) and stand for extended periods.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • A team player with a positive attitude and commitment to customer service
