JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Produce Lead
Department: Produce
Reports to: Store Manager, Category Grocery Manager
Direct Reports: Customer Service Associates, Produce Clerks
Working Conditions: Retail Store environment where work and events can be varied or unpredictable; mainly standing/walking/lifting; offering service to the public.

TIME REQUIREMENTS:

  • One year maternity leave coverage contract position
  • Full time hourly position
  • Employee is entitled to a 30 minute unpaid meal break for all shifts longer than 5 consecutive hours
  • Must have a flexible working availability - willing to work days, evenings and weekends and assist with shift coverage as needed

QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:

  • Have a minimum of 2 years of produce experience or equivalent in a food services position
  • AHS Food Safety Certification or equivalent as recognized by AHS is an asset
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills with an emphasis in database operation and inventory management
  • Ability to work with a flexible attitude in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to prioritize and complete projects in a timely manner
  • Excellent organization and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of organic and natural foods industry and produce and/or perishable products an asset

BASIC PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Stand for extended periods of time. Walk, bend and twist your body, reach above and below shoulders.
  • Use of mops, brooms, cleaning products, knives, box cutters, carts, computers and printers.
  • Use ladders of varying heights up to 12 feet.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs maximum.
  • Repetitive use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling, and typing.
  • Environmental exposure to extreme temperatures in coolers, freezers, and outdoors.
Responsibilities

ROLE:

This position holds overall accountability for supporting store sales, managing expenses, and reducing shrinkage and damages by providing leadership across key areas of responsibility.

Key duties include:

  • Providing leadership and support to Produce Department team members
  • Receiving and verifying shipments, primarily for Produce, and assisting other departments during peak times
  • Picking transfers, stocking shelves, rotating overstock/downstock
  • Posting invoices into the database system
  • Managing produce coolers and freezers
  • Running inventory management reports
  • Executing product merchandising strategies
  • Maintaining overall store cleanliness

This position is also directly accountable for performance results and serves as a role model, ensuring a consistently positive experience for both team members and customers.
