Description Austin PBS seeks an experienced producer to support the native gardening culture and how-to series Central Texas Gardener, which has been on the air for over 30 years. Will also facilitate other station studio productions as needed. Candidates should be comfortable working in a high-pressure, collaborative, and creative environment. Applicants should demonstrate a background in television, journalism, and/or digital production, as well as a mastery of a subset of the required skills. The ideal candidate has a background in television or digital media and experience in all aspects of producing television shows and online video content, and a passion for the world of gardening. At Austin PBS, you’ll do meaningful work with a team of coworkers dedicated to the mission of public media. You may also work on other award-winning shows and special productions and events. We offer a supportive and collaborative work environment. The Producer position reports to the VP of Production. Role & Responsibilities: Produce television series, studio productions and other special programs. In particular, produce the station's second longest-running show, Central Texas Gardener. Select story ideas, develop program concepts, and decide how the technical aspects of a production should be executed in collaboration with the VP of Production and others. Create and maintain relationships with community partners and outside organizations, PR agencies, and non-profits. Help represent the Central Texas Gardener brand on-air, online and around the community (panel discussions and talks). Research program content, contact and schedule studio guests, and gather graphics or research materials. Arrange productions from initial contact through completion, including logistics of location shooting, scheduling equipment and personnel, and collaborating with interviewees to determine best set-up. Work closely with production management to schedule studio, editing and personnel for upcoming productions. Write and/or edit scripts, rehearse with talent and crew, and establish program pace to maintain time requirements. Communicate and instruct crew in the studio and the field to achieve desired production outcomes. Log footage and prepare story outline and scripts for edit sessions. Edit segments and packages as necessary. Work with editors on fine-tuning graphics, transitions, edits, and color correction for final episode post and delivery. Notify Programming and Marketing departments regarding monthly schedules and program description and promotional material. Maintain files including records and talent releases relevant to shows produced. Create, edit and maintain written, video and photo content for social media that builds on the current CTG community and demonstrates CTG's authenticity, legacy and passion for gardening Own and maintain social content calendar, and determine best post times based on data and reporting Develop and contribute to digital strategies that support Austin PBS’ goals and KPIs Upload, schedule, optimize and organize content on CTG web properties and video platforms (YouTube, PBS App, https://www.centraltexasgardener.org/, etc.) Identify content from program archives, and update and reformat for use on the station’s YouTube channel. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in journalism, video, photography or other similar related fields (or the equivalent combination of education and experience). 4 years of experience in digital production, television producing, news gathering, or relevant field. Master Gardener training, or a formal background in horticulture, botany, or landscape design is preferred. Knowledge & Skills: Knowledge of television production concepts, principles, methodology, and techniques. Knowledge of professional production and post-production procedures, techniques, and standards in a non-linear production environment. Exhibit an understanding of public media mission and values. Excellent verbal and interpersonal communications skills. Creative decision-making skills Ability to deal and interact with nationally-known guests as well as local figures. Informed in a wide range of topics beyond current events, including culture, government and public policy. Personal integrity, fairness, and the credibility needed to gain trust across all levels of an organization. Comfort with teleconferencing software like Zoom or Google Meet. Proficient with Google Workspace tools. Proficient with Adobe Creative Cloud tools, particularly Premiere Pro. Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to work non-standard hours (early mornings, weekends) as necessary, Regularly interact and exchange information with others, both verbal and written. Work is primarily done on-site and in the field. Salary is $75,000.
Responsibilities
The Producer will produce the Central Texas Gardener series and other station productions, selecting story ideas and managing the technical aspects of production. They will also maintain relationships with community partners and represent the brand in various settings.
