ABOUT THE POSITION:

We are looking for a Product Designer to join our team in Calgary. The Product Designer will research, develop, and identify innovative sheet metal products based on customer needs and market trends. This role will also create visual designs, evaluate prototypes, and produce technical drawings and specifications for new products.

Engineering Analysis:

Product Design

  • Work closely with the Sales and Marketing staff to answer product inquiries and ultimately confirm all required specifications.
  • Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to determine dimensions, shape, materials etc. in the development of products, processes and equipment.
  • Work closely with cross functional Manufacturing teams to solicit ideas and input, utilize best practices to Develop Sheet Metal Products, Manufacturing concepts, and prototypes with regards to design for manufacturing, quality, safety, and waste elimination.
  • Clearly present proposals including product costs, equipment or tooling requirements, risks.
  • Complete product design using Solidworks (CAD) and perform CNC (CAM) programming.
  • Ensure Product quality and safety are top considerations in all aspects of work.
  • Build and evaluate prototypes with Stakeholder input for performance, durability, and compliance with standards, make necessary adjustments as required.
  • Compile Bills of Materials (BOM’s) and Technical drawing sets that contain all the information required by production to manufacture the product.
  • Participate in product launch activities, including product demonstrations and training sessions for Manufacturing and sales teams.
  • Validate results of product designs and manufacturing processes utilizing PDCA techniques.

Continuous Improvement

  • Understand and Utilize Lean principles, participate in Value Stream mapping (VSM) activities to eliminate waste and improve the manufacturing processes and products.
  • Participate in viability studies regarding new processes, equipment, and tooling and facilitate implementation once approved.
  • Provide support to ECCO Manufacturing with regards to equipment condition, recommendations, capacities, versatility, and all other aspects of plant equipment maintenance and replacement.
  • Assist the fabricators, machinists, toolmakers and electricians in the debug, integration resolving problems and completion of systems.
  • Other duties as deemed necessary by management
