Description
The Role: As a Product Designer at RealWork, you’ll design elegant, intuitive software that helps home service businesses engage with customers, build trust, and grow through better marketing and communication. You’ll partner closely with product managers and engineers to uncover user needs, turn insights into clear solutions, and iterate from early concepts through shipped product. Designing a great user experience at RealWork requires strong communication and facilitation—someone who can bring clarity to ambiguity, extract the best ideas from a team, and advocate for the customer while staying pragmatic about delivery. We value a humble, confident approach: opinionated about craft, open-minded about feedback. What You'll Do: Partner effectively within a cross-functional team (product, design, engineering) to deliver meaningful product outcomes. Plan and conduct research to understand user needs, workflows, and constraints. Rapidly prototype ideas (low → high fidelity), validate with customers/prospects, and iterate based on what you learn. Communicate design intent and rationale through deliverables like mockups, workflow diagrams, prototypes, and usability findings. Help ensure what ships matches the intended experience—clear states, edge cases handled, and polish where it matters. Things You Might Work On: Review request experiences across email, SMS, and AI phone calls—sequencing, templates, and outcomes. Embeddable, interactive widgets that live on customers’ websites and showcase recent jobs, photos, and reviews to help convert homeowners. Integrations with home-service CRMs that pull job and customer data into RealWork to power automation and reporting. Mobile tools for technicians to capture/manage job media in the field and trigger review requests at the right moment. An admin-style experience for controlling job visibility on widgets, mapping reviews to customers, and scheduling automated social posting. AI-driven features like photo visibility/ranking, AI-generated job descriptions, and service-area summaries. Website design templates tailored to specific home-service verticals (HVAC, plumbing, roofing, etc.). Who You Are: 5+ years of experience as a product designer for software with a record of successfully conducting product discovery, and iterating on solution prototypes. 3+ years of experience designing the software UI of enterprise-level B2B or B2C applications that support users who are performing complex workflows. 3+ years experience as an embedded designer in cross-functional teams successfully taking your early concepts through to released products. Holder of a degree or certification in design, human-computer interaction, software engineering; or have equivalent training in product design and user experience principles and methods. Owner of an online portfolio that represents your (non-confidential) work including an example of a product design flow. Even Better If You: Comfortable using AI tools to accelerate design work—exploration, copy, prototyping, and iteration (especially Claude + Figma MCP). Have experience with HTML/CSS/JavaScript (or related frameworks) and can collaborate effectively with engineers on implementation details. Have experience designing embedded and responsive experiences (widgets/iframes) within real-world constraints like theming, performance, and cross-site behavior. Bring strong systems thinking—handling complex states, edge cases, permissions, and automation-driven workflows with clarity. Have experience with product analytics and in-app guidance tools (e.g., Pendo) for instrumentation, tagging, and iterating based on user behavior. Enjoy meeting users to uncover insights, validate assumptions, and iteratively refine designs based on feedback. Leverage best practices where relevant, but can adapt or invent new approaches when the problem demands it. Demonstrate exceptional craftsmanship in interaction design, UI polish, and design deliverables. Demonstrate exceptional verbal, visual, and written communication skills (including strong product writing for microcopy and system states). Have a tendency to read all bullet points in long lists, especially this list. Why Join RealWork?
