Responsibilities

BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THIS ROLE:

We are looking for a Technical Product Designer to join our Product team at Sitemate, contributing to designing and delivering solutions across our product experiences.
At Sitemate our product owners are project managers, product thinkers and part time designers. They work closely with engineers in small teams to prepare designs and requirements, and manage the build and delivery of new features and improvements to our customers. This is a role with a strong focus on delivery — ideal for someone who enjoys working closely with engineers and scoping technical work, rather than doing heavy visual design.
This role would be great for you if you are looking for the opportunity to develop and broaden your product and design skill set. Maybe you’ve worked in startups before, and you want to join a team that moves very quickly and places a huge emphasis on building great product experiences for our customers. Your level of experience matters less than your enthusiasm to take on more responsibility and make a significant impact.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING IN THIS ROLE?

  • Directly collaborating with engineers during the development cycle, coordination of in-flight work, demo reviewing work completed and owning the team delivery.
  • Working with engineers to break down complex technical tasks into smaller, deliverable pieces and preparing ticket requirements.
  • Preparing high-level concept designs to review internally and preparing detailed designs and UX flows, working with the product team to define scope.
  • Attending team meetings to clarify scope, test ideas and collect feedback.
  • Establish and promote design guidelines, best practices, and standards.
  • Contributing to release notes.
  • Monitoring production support for issues raised by customer support team, performing triage and ticketing up fixes if required.

WHAT WILL BE THE BIGGEST CHALLENGES FOR ME IN THIS ROLE?

  • Pace - we move very quickly, so you’ll need to be excited to come in and learn extremely fast.
  • Context switching across technical domains – You may work across cloud infrastructure, developer tooling, and internal systems. Being comfortable jumping into technical discussions (even without full expertise) will help you thrive.
  • Scoping and sequencing ambiguous work – Many initiatives won’t come with clear specs or visual outcomes. You’ll need to partner with engineers to break work down into deliverable milestones.
  • Being delivery-first – This role is lighter on visual design and heavier on project delivery, engineering coordination, and scope clarity. You’ll need to care just as much about blockers, dependencies, and timelines as you do about the design and product experience.
  • We have a strong culture based on core values and standard operating procedures, you may need to unlearn a few things from previous experience.
