QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A degree or certification in Food Science, Culinary Arts, or a related field is often required.
  • Proven experience in product development within a bakery or food manufacturing
  • Strong knowledge of baking processes, ingredients, and equipment.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a high degree of initiative and flexibility.
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow through and resolve outstanding issues on a timely basis.
  • Must have good communication skills in English – written and verbal.
  • Must have strong interpersonal, leadership qualities, and team building skills.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated; is accountable and takes ownership of the role.
  • Understanding of manufacturing regulations regarding safety, quality, HACCP, GMP’s, and SOPs.
Responsibilities
  • A deep understanding of baking processes, ingredient interactions, and the science behind baking (e.g., how different types of flour, leavening agents, and fats affect the final product).
  • A willingness to experiment with new ingredients, techniques, and flavor pairings to create innovative baked goods.
  • The ability to create and refine recipes, adapting them to different environments (e.g., commercial bakeries vs. restaurants).
  • The ability to assess and evaluate the taste, texture, and appearance of baked goods, and to understand consumer preferences.
  • The ability to work with sales and production staff to meet critical deadlines.
  • Establish a sampling program that meets with customer criteria, sales and operations standards.
  • Ensuring products meet quality and safety standards, adhering to regulations, and maintaining proper documentation.
  • The ability to manage product development projects from initial concept to launch, including timelines, budgets, and production processes.
  • Addressing production issues and providing technical guidance to production and packing teams.
  • The ability to effectively communicate with engineers, production staff, and marketing teams.
  • Optimizing existing recipes and processes.
  • Working with ingredient suppliers to develop new and improved ingredients.
  • Conducting sensory evaluations and collecting feedback from consumers.
  • Developing and implementing production processes and quality control procedures.
  • Staying up to date on current consumer trends and preferences.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations, HACCP principles, and labeling requirements.
  • Work closely with all other departments when required.
  • Perform other duties as required.
