PRODUCT DEVELOPER

Our Product Developer (PD) will play an integral role enhancing our current products through market research, competitive analysis and a variety of data-driven evaluations. Reporting to our Quality Assurance Manager, successful candidates will need to have a passion for development and for food safety/quality assurance in a manufacturing environment.
This position is a new role at Del’s Pastry and will require an entrepreneurial attitude, exceptional mathematic skills, possess a food science background, and a strong understanding of industrial / manufacturing processes.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in food science or related field is mandatory.
  • Manufacturing work experience is mandatory.
  • Soft skills required: creative, critical thinker and good listener.
  • Ability to work well with colleagues in a professional and organized manner.
  • Proven ability to communicate clearly and effectively in either a technical or business environment.
  • Proficiency with unit conversions, simple algebra, ingredient cost calculations, and statistics.
  • Ability to maintain the integrity of highly sensitive and confidential intellectual property and business information.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel (or equivalent) skills.
  • Experience as a QA Technician experience in a food processing or packaging environment is a strong asset.
  • Food Safety Certifications strong asset

Responsibilities
  • Assists in all aspects of new product development and current product line enhancements.
  • Assists in drafting, testing, and troubleshooting formulas to meet nutritional, usage, performance, sensory, and cost targets.
  • Use creativity to enhance current product lines
  • Assists in new ingredient sourcing, evaluation, and approval.
  • Sample management for new customers
  • Recipe building
  • Trial new products in test kitchen before placing on the line
  • Works closely with sales/marketing to make the new product happens based on the market and feedback.
  • Performs evaluations of ingredients, test formulas, production samples, and competitive products.
  • Assist in entering data into the nutritional database.
  • Creation of manufacturing plans and quality testing specifications for new products.
  • Implements trials in production environment (separate from lab / kitchen trials).
  • Assists in the diagnosis of production failures and the development of compliant rework plans.
  • Ensure food safety remains high priority and is an ambassador for a food-safe culture.
  • Support QA team with annual internal audit
  • Project management for new product launches (ingredients, line time, recipe specs, timeline, etc…)
