JOB DESCRIPTION

Glad to meet you. We are Taste of Nature Foods Inc. (TONFI), working hard to bring healthy snacks to the masses. Proudly Canadian, our company has blossomed over the last 30 years developing healthy snacks for our primary brand, Taste of Nature, sold in over thirty countries around the globe, as well as our significant private label and contract manufacturing businesses. We are rapidly growing across all segments and were recently recognized by The Globe and Mail as one of Canada’s Top Growing Companies 2024 and certified as a Great Place to Work ® – this is an exciting time for our company!
We’re looking to enhance our team by welcoming a new Product Developer to the R&D team, reporting to the R&D and Regulatory Manager. Collectively, we have launched over 150 new SKUs in the past 3 years and developed over 500 ingredient/product formulas - this is a dynamic and fast-paced role, critical for the future of TONFI’s growth.

Responsibilities
  • Ideate, innovate, replicate, and produce exceptional new products.
  • Formulate new products with consideration to equipment capability, nutritional profile, regulatory compliance, cost, and sensory targets.
  • Own the product development process from ideation to commercialization, including bench top development, plant trials, first productions, and ongoing optimization.
  • Refine existing formulations, finding operational efficiencies when possible.
  • Stay on top of food trends, new ingredients, and manufacturing processes.
  • Evaluate and record results from lab work, plant trials, and production in an organized manner.
  • Assist in ingredient sourcing and oversee ingredient approvals and substitutions when needed.
  • Develop customer R&D samples and manage shipping to customers.
  • Lead plant trials and first production runs in collaboration with the operations team, quality team, and production staff.
  • Develop and maintain detailed production procedures.
  • Maintain database on ingredients, formulation, and nutritional specifications utilizing Genesis R&D software.
  • Provide support for all areas of research and development including the nutrition facts table, specifications, and claims, which adhere to Canadian, U.S. and international regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in ensuring packaging is compliant, including internal review and assisting in the management of external regulatory resources.
  • Flexibility to attend early morning and/or late-night trials and first production as needed.
