POSITION TITLE: Product Development Engineer
LOCATION: Rochester, NY

POSITION SUMMARY

Kodak Alaris is seeking a self-motivated, well-rounded Product Development Engineer to join our Photo Kiosk Hardware Development Team. The Product Development Engineer will support all aspects of the product life cycle from concept through discontinuance, focusing on printers and related accessories, with potential expansion to other areas as needed. Occasional domestic or international travel to vendor or customer sites may be required (1-3 times/year). Regular access to the Rochester, NY development offices and labs will be required.

SKILLS AND/OR KNOWLEDGE SPECIFICATIONS

  • Technical Skills:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Project, D365, Teams).
  • Knowledge of printing technologies (thermal, inkjet, electrophotographic).
  • Knowledge of design of experiments and statistical analysis methods\tools.
  • Understanding of integrated electrical and mechanical systems and related manufacturing processes.
  • Broad understanding of computer systems, assembly, peripherals, and hardware integration.
  • Working knowledge of electrical and mechanical CAD programs (Solidworks) and geometric design & tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Working knowledge of software development to solve engineering problems, prototype solutions, or update documentation (Languages: C++, Labview, C#).
  • Knowledge in digital imaging/photography/image science.
  • Knowledge of Windows and working knowledge of Linux operating systems (preferred; not required).
  • Familiarity with the patent process (preferred, not required).
  • Soft Skills:
  • Relationship Management: Develop, manage, and maintain effective partnerships across cultural, geographic, and functional boundaries, both internally and externally.
  • Project Management: Track progress and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment where goals and specifications evolve.
  • Communication Skills: Effectively convey technical and non-technical information.
  • Self-Starting: Work independently and in a team setting, quickly adjusting to new tasks and priorities. Identify gaps or needs and drive actions to address them.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE SPECIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 5-10 years of related experience.
  • Experience in:
  • Working in multifunctional/multidisciplinary teams (ex. software, hardware, service, media engineering).
  • Driving actions based on data.
  • Developing documents such as requests for proposals, request for quotes, and product requirements.
  • Printing technologies (thermal, inkjet, electrophotographic).
  • Data analysis tools (JMP and/or Minitab).
  • CAD tools (Solidworks).
  • Photography/image capture (preferred, not required).
  • Image science (preferred, not required).
  • Developing products and services for worldwide use through commercialization methodologies (Waterfall, Agile - preferred, not required).
  • Product commercialization of photo imaging and printing systems, consumer kiosk systems, retail systems integration (preferred, not required).
    Compensation: $90,000 - $110,000 (based on the level of experience)

Responsibilities
  • Address printer performance issues by establishing root causes, identifying solutions, and collaborating with suppliers to implement them.
  • Communicate requirements for new printers and improvements to existing printers to suppliers.
  • Coordinate activities to resolve component obsolescence issues.
  • Develop test plans using design of experiments principles.
  • Provide technical guidance for creating support documents for current products and services.
  • Collaborate with the media team to identify necessary printer modifications for new media products or modifications to existing products.
  • Work with software engineering to deliver SDK and firmware from external vendors for internal and external use.
  • Collaborate with the image science team to deliver optimal print quality within system constraints.
  • Integrate third-party solutions to enhance overall capabilities in a scalable and robust system.
