Job Details Job Location: Commercial Sewing, Inc. - Torrington, CT 06790 Education Level: 4 Year Degree Travel Percentage: Up to 25% Job Category: Engineering Job Summary: The Product Development Engineer will design new products, improve existing products, and build prototypes for our Accessories, Bags, UTV and Snowmobile Cover division. The Engineer should be capable of developing products from concept to final production. The right candidate should be extremely hands-on and visually oriented with the ability to conceptualize and design complex 2-D and 3-D geometric shapes. Duties/Responsibilities: Drafts product designs according to customer, client, or company specifications using 2-D concept renderings and 3-D CAD drawings. Adapts existing product designs to meet new specifications and applications. Assists with construction of prototypes. Tests prototypes to verify product reliability; makes adjustments as required. Develop sewing patterns with corresponding product specification drawings/tech packs to ensure a complete, detailed, and accurate sample build. Assists the engineering department in resolving product issues or production difficulties. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications What You Bring to the Table: Creative & Analytical Mindset – Strong drafting, problem-solving, and visualization skills. Tech-Savvy Expertise – Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, CAD software, and Microsoft Office Suite. Manufacturing Knowledge – Familiarity with materials, manufacturing processes, and product testing. Hands-On Experience – A portfolio showcasing your ID drawings and model-making skills. Team Player – Strong collaborative and relationship-building skills to work seamlessly across departments. Lean Manufacturing Know-How – Applied experience in lean production methodologies. Preferred Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial or Product Design (or related field). Experience: Minimum 3 years in product development or a related engineering role. Software Proficiency: Ability to quickly learn new design tools and programs. Industry Knowledge: Experience with plastic & foam molding processes (injection, vac-form, compression, extrusion).
