The Product Development Specialist will report to the SVP of Innovation to support development of new products from concept testing and scale/up formulations. This role will collaborate closely with experienced chefs, Operations, and Marketing teams to ensure that product meets our high standards for quality. This role will interact with leaders across the company and must possess excellent communication skills, and comfort working within a high-change environment with multiple priorities. RESPONSIBILITIES: PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT & TESTING Independently formulate and optimize products in alignment with project briefs, including cost targets, claims, flavor profiles, and technical requirements; establish process controls and define finished goods specifications. Maintain the R&D workspace, ensuring all equipment, tools, and ingredient inventories are organized, operational, and compliant with internal standards. Work closely with the team in product design, development, and testing for innovation and renovation projects. Conduct raw material assessment, evaluation and sourcing for approval in production and maintain ingredient documentation. Own relationship with 3rd party labs and co-manufacturers to test and analyze products. Proactively research and identify emerging ingredients, technologies, and processes, applying insights to enhance product performance and innovation strategy. CROSS FUNCTIONAL COLLABORATION Assist with scale up trials of products and work closely with commercialization, co-man, and operations team to train on process. Work across functions to ensure the product works with designated packaging and serves proper functionality. Assist in pipeline prioritization and technical assessment of future innovation projects and ideas Collaborate with key cross functional leads to assist on-time set up of factory trials, owning various PD responsibilities. Work with Quality Assurance on developing systems to maintain food product standards, identify/resolve issues when one occurs. Collaborate with Customer Experience team on customer feedback responses, owning the viewpoints of the Product Team. Qualifications Required Qualifications: 4 days per week in office 2+ years of Food Product Development experience Proficient in operating typical food processing equipment and lab instruments. Experience designing and running shelf life studies Experience in high growth CPG (food) environment Basic knowledge of ingredient functionality to support product development Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail Excellent communication skills with high comfort presenting in front of leadership team in a compelling and concise manner High ethical standards and attention to compliance risks. Sound working knowledge of food industry principles (e.g. GMP, HACCP, food safety, sanitary practices, and regulations) Preferred Qualifications: 4 years in Food Product Development 2+ years of Quality Assurance/Quality Control experience Proven track record with Shelf Life Studies and Cost Savings Projects Proficient ability to work with culinary or corporate chefs to translate the vision of the restaurant group into a commercially viable CPG product.
