JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

Leads the design, development, testing and release of new products and product enhancements. Projects are broad and varied, requiring inclusion of technical and business context and solving of non-routine problems.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Translates customer requirements into product specifications; interfaces with customer representatives to ensure their desired features and performance levels are properly comprehended in product specifications.
  • Validates the design of new products or product enhancements by completing various analyses such as stack-ups, DFMEA, Design for Assembly/ Manufacturing studies, and Noise, Vibration, and Harshness studies.
  • Participates in various technical reviews throughout the product development cycle; prepares technical presentations to various stakeholders.
  • Establishes key product characteristics and develops a bill of materials for an approved design.
  • Compiles analysis reports on returned components from the field.
  • Coordinates the testing and validation of product designs; gains prototype and part approval.
  • Attains final authorisation, documentation, and release to production of a new product or product enhancement design; completes design drawings or other documentation; obtains drawing approval and issuance of notice of release; supports product launch activities.
  • Performs Torsional Vibration calculations when required (training will be given).

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EDUCATION

  • B’Eng. (Honours) In Mechanical Engineering or similar plus 2-5 years professional experience; or Advanced Degree plus 0-3 years professional experience.
  • A good understanding of CAD and PLM software required.
  • A knowledge of test rig design and instrumentation is desirable.
  • Experience of NVH, and Torsional Vibration is desirable but not essential.
  • Experience of internal combustion engines is desirable.
  • Knowledge of the marine industry is desirable.
  • Ability to communicate with customers and to work in a team.
  • Willingness to take on responsibility, proactive attitude.
  • Willingness to travel for business (customer visits).
