Description

RSS Inc. is urgently hiring Product Engineer / Product Engineering Specialist for their leading clients’ manufacturing unit located in North York, ON.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical and eligible for P. Eng.
  • More than 7 years’ experience in manufacturing environment highly preferred
  • Working knowledge of computer drafting software especially AutoCAD and Solidworks
  • Extensive experience with metal fabrication, welding, press brake operation and tooling, metal stamping/tooling, CNC punch press operations
  • Familiar with surface finish (i.e. powder paint, zinc plating, etc.) operations
  • Working knowledge of GD&T, GR&R, Control Plan development, PPAP submissions and APQP activities
  • Use equipment, materials, and machinery only as authorized
  • Good decision-making skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to handle several tasks simultaneously
  • Good interpersonal & presentation skills
  • Ability to travel locally and Internationally
  • Well-developed English communications skills (Witten and oral)

Responsibilities
  • Process customers’ requests for quotation for new orders and review for manufacturability
  • Working with the New Products Design Engineering group, provide technical input into new designs and concepts. Support the research of new materials, processes, tooling and equipment as part of the new designs and concepts efforts
  • Prototyping potential new products on the shop floor, coordinating special samples and ensuring the accuracy of product against design drawings
  • Analyze the costs, materials and labor requirements for existing and new products, initiate Engineering Change Requests or Temporary Deviation Requests. Modify tooling, layouts & work center (to improve capacity load of product) and material handling to help production
  • Liaise with Plant Management and Manufacturing Engineering on implementation of new tools and equipment and coordinate PPAP process with Quality Control and customer’s engineers
  • Working with the various design teams (Seating, Walls, TRB, Ergonomic Products, Metal Storage, Electrics and Wood Products), providing engineering and technical input into new products and specials. Support the prototyping and manufacturing implementation of these items
  • Support the Tier 1 Manufacturing Engineering teams with product enhancements, with a focus on quality improvements and cost reductions
  • Obtain tooling and equipment quotes based on process design
  • Select and approve tool vendors for new products, monitor their manufacturing process and expedite tooling once orders are placed. ‘monitor vendor on time’
  • Ensure new product or engineering change implementations occur in production by supplying information to the involved parties, ordering proper equipment and tooling, implementing processes on the shop floor, and initiating updates for product drawings when necessary with help of Manufacturing Engineering when necessary
  • Support the ISO9001 process by providing specifications which need to be followed to produce parts. Assist Manufacturing Engineering and Quality Assurance when doing first off inspections
  • Liaise with Plant Management and Manufacturing Engineering for BOM review, tooling problems, tooling designs, manufacturability & implementation of new tools and equipment
  • Liaise with Equipment and Service suppliers whenever necessary
  • This incumbent is accountable for assigning, coordinating, reviewing, assisting the technical work of the department or project teams and perform other duties as required.
