JOB OVERVIEW

We are currently looking for a Product Engineering Apprentice to join our Manufacturing Engineering department based in Dunfermline on a 4-year Fixed Term Contract.
You will be working within a multifunctional team to develop new products and transfer them from development phase into full scale production. Through Concurrent Engineering the Manufacturing Engineering team play a key role in the in every phase of the product life cycle.

WHAT SKILLS WILL I LEARN?

  • Cross functional working – collaborating with Electronic, Electrical, Mechanical, Optical and Software Engineers.
  • Communication and team working - as part of project teams including all parts of the business.
  • Design for Manufacture and Assembly – ensuring new concepts and designs are production ready and provide excellence to our customers.
  • Quality Assurance – Ensuring Quality is integrated into all aspects of the product from initial concept to field service.
  • Designing, Documenting, and Implementing new production processes both in house and in partnership with suppliers.
  • Continuous improvement of existing products, manufacturing and support processes.
  • Lead Engineering investigations to fault find on production and field failures, validate new processes and parts and develop and implement next generation production techniques.
  • Project Managements as a team member and contributor in large projects and leading smaller investigations and development projects.
    Whilst working at Optos, you will also be studying towards your Modern Apprenticeship at Fife College. The course is delivered in a blended manner and during your first year you would attend college 3 days per week and 2 days in the workplace. The timetable will vary each year.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS OR QUALITES ARE REQUIRED

  • Gained 4 or 5 Highers, ideally including Math’s, Physics and Technical Studies or equivalent hands-on experience in a technical environment.
  • Good communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Can adapt to change and deal with multiple tasks.
  • Ability to identify potential problems and take appropriate action.
  • Good organisational skills and ability to coordinate workload to ensure that deadlines and targets are met.
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office applications).
  • Strong team player with flexible attitude to work priorities.
