Description

Tempel is America’s largest manufacturer of magnetic laminations for the motor and transformer industry, dating back to 1945. With manufacturing facilities in USA, Canada, Mexico, China, and India we continue to be a fast-growing industrial manufacturer providing a full range of highly efficient transformer components at our facility in Burlington Ontario, where we have been since 1975.
Our primary products out of this location are Wound Distributed Gap Cores, Mitre and Butt Lap Laminations, Logs and Fully Assembled Cores in our Flat Stack Department, Steel Sales, Custom Slitting and a warehousing for Tempel Steel’s laminations.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Product Engineering will be responsible for providing engineering support for Tempel’s steel transformer core production process, troubleshooting equipment failures. Will aid in improving product quality and productivity on the production floor, be a technical resource to staff, and assist in operations where appropriate in the manufacturing process. Provide support and/or present solutions to difficult/complex issues with both internal and external stakeholders.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Ability to read, interpret and analyze electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic circuit schematics and engineering drawings.
  • Proficient in the use of the typical MS office suite of software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and database software).
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks or similar equivalents.
  • Demonstrative good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Keeps current with and applies new work methods, skills and technologies to complete work

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Formal education in a technologists/engineering program in Electrical, Mechanical or related engineering discipline.
  • 1-3 years of experience in mechanical, electrical, electro-mechanical design is preferred.

Responsibilities
  • Provide engineering support and/or solutions to sales team, production, and customers including design, fabrication, and procurement of related hardware.
  • Review and analyzing customer product specifications for production purposes.
  • Creation of drawings, bills of material, work instructions and uploading ERP.
  • Anticipate and assist with production processes and procedures to ensure high quality and smooth production.
  • Maintain and further grow vendor network to support an expanding business.
  • Engage directly with suppliers to understand capabilities and resolve quality issues.
  • Work as a member of an integrated, interdisciplinary product team to examine, discuss, and develop solutions to difficult/complex issues with both internal and external stakeholders (customers, suppliers, internal management, etc.)
  • Be a technical resource to staff and assist and support production operations where appropriate in the manufacturing process.
  • Investigate failures and make improvement recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Troubleshoot design and manufacturing errors.
  • Provide engineering support for Tempel’s QMS and help develop best practices for all production related equipment.
  • Aid in improving product quality and productivity on the production floor.
  • Recommend equipment and process improvement projects that will increase efficiencies and lower costs.
  • Participate in the design of new production equipment and existing equipment for process improvement.
  • Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
  • Prepare manufacturing documentation of electrical schematics, mechanical assembly and production process flows.
  • Provide written and/or oral reports to engineering management as necessary.
  • Work extensively in a hands-on manner to locate and implement improvements.
  • Support a 24x7 industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Maintain excellent documentation and records.
  • Perform all other duties/support as assigned by Management deemed necessary to accomplish objectives.
  • Ensure compliance and commitment to the effectiveness of the ISO 9001:2015 QMS requirements during daily operations.
