Here at Appian, our core values of Respect, Work to Impact, Ambition, and Constructive Dissent & Resolution define who we are. In short, this means we constantly seek to understand the best for our customers, we go beyond completion in our work, we strive for excellence with intensity, and we embrace candid communication. These values guide our actions and shape our culture every day. When you join Appian, you’ll be part of a passionate team that’s dedicated to accomplishing hard things.

ABOUT THE JOB

A Product Manager with Platform Engineering is responsible for the direction and roadmap for one or more components of the core infrastructure on which all Appian Cloud customer sites run. This position is for you if you are deeply interested in cloud infrastructure and services, and especially if you have familiarity with modern cloud native architectures, and networking. As such, we are looking for a person with a strong technical background and a desire to apply that expertise to decisions that have direct customer impact.

Work on an agile team to prioritize, define, and ensure success of infrastructure features for a high-level strategic roadmap, as well as increments of value continuously delivered at the sprint level.

  • Prioritize what we should build and in which order we should build them by analyzing internal and external customer use cases, understanding technology trends, incorporating information security requirements, and collaborating with stakeholders on product vision and strategy.
  • Present ideas and progress on new features through department-wide and internal team reviews to elicit feedback.
  • Define how infrastructure features will work through collaboration with engineers in design sessions, architecture diagrams, InfoSec reviews, and usability testing.
  • Manage the release and sprint backlog through planning and backlog grooming, working with squad coaches, engineers, and other product managers as needed.
  • Write detailed specifications for your peer product managers, developers, and other stakeholders to review and provide feedback on.
  • Track adoption and usage of new features, applying appropriate metrics and analytics to evaluate whether they are having the desired impact.
  • Guide features through to completion including writing documentation, prioritization of bug fixes and enhancements, and conducting adoption analysis.

This role is based at our office at Level 42, 25 Martin Place, Sydney. Appian was built on a culture of in-person collaboration, which we believe is a key driver of our mission to be the best. Employees hired for this position are expected to be in the office 5 days a week to foster that culture and ensure we continue to thrive through shared ideas and teamwork. We believe being in the office provides more opportunities to come together and celebrate working with the exceptional people across Appian.

NICE TO HAVE EXPERIENCE:

  • Relevant experience with cloud infrastructure, acting as a product owner, ideally acting as a product manager during an internship.
  • Demonstrated expertise in core networking principles, including advanced understanding of VPNs, IP addressing, subnetting, DNS, routing protocols, and network security. You should be able to translate complex technical concepts into clear product requirements.
  • Experience implementing or managing infrastructure utilizing Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) principles or related technologies.
  • Experience managing day-to-day technical and design direction for large scale systems and services.
  • Experience AWS networking services (e.g. PrivateLink, Internet Gateways, VPCs, Transit Gateways)
  • Associate Level AWS Certification or hands on experience designing and launching products that leverage AWS Services (Cloudwatch, EC2, ELB, Route53, S3) to support mission-critical systems.
  • Sound understanding of the value of cutting edge infrastructure technologies like Kubernetes and concepts like Infrastructure as Code.

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field. Master’s degree or relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Advanced Networking - Specialty) are a plus.

Preferred Experience Level:

  • Product management experience, with a strong focus on networking. Proven track record of leading technical products from concept to launch.
