Description

A Product Manager who likes ideas not only during brainstorms, but especially when they eventually come out of a container in boxes and end up on the shelf. Because ideas are cheap. Containers are expensive. And you are in between. You will end up in a compact team that is growing fast and developing ranges for major European retailers. You ensure that an idea does not end up as PowerPoint, but as a product on the shelf. And that remains fun. Even after the hundredth container.

  • Your role as Product Manager (international) You own the entire product process. From the first idea to the moment the product is actually on the shelf. So not only the fun part with brainstorms and samples, but also the moment when a factory in Asia says that something is “almost ready” and you know that could mean anything.
  • You move smoothly between concept, commerce and realization and ensure that products are correct from idea to in-store. Content-wise, commercially and operationally. In other words: it must look good, be salable and delivered on time. In that order, or sometimes exactly the other way around.
  • You manage multiple product processes simultaneously. While one product is in the sampling phase, another is being produced and the third is almost on the shelves. You monitor quality, timing and commercial feasibility while maintaining an overview.
  • You interact with suppliers, designers, compliance partners and colleagues every day. Sometimes all in one morning. Across different time zones. With different priorities.
  • You manage suppliers and factories in Asia, assess inspection reports and intervene when necessary. You keep a close eye on planning, quality and deadlines.
  • You communicate closely with purchasing and actively support the purchasing process. You request quotes from suppliers, compare them on price, quality, delivery time and conditions and advise on the best choice.
  • You identify market developments and translate trends and customer questions into new products and variants. You contribute to collections, ranges and product presentations and ensure that proposals are distinctive and sales-ready for large retail customers.
  • You provide direction to product design and packaging with an eye for shelf impact and commercial appeal.
  • You manage designers with clear briefings and monitor the end result. In addition, you keep an overview of compliance processes per product and coordinate with external parties about testing, documentation and marking so that everything is correct before it reaches the store.
  • You work in an environment with high volumes, short lead times and continuous product development. This requires structure, decisiveness and the ability to think ahead.

About our clientOur client is a fast-growing importer, distributor and concept developer of non-food consumer products for the largest retail chains in the Netherlands and Europe, active in the mass retail segment. From the Netherlands we continuously develop new products and concepts for the European retail market. Production takes place in Asia, where we supervise the entire process, from initial idea and product development to production, in-store and after-sales. Our team is young, enterprising and pragmatic. We work with short lines, switch quickly, embrace new technology (including AI) and provide plenty of room for initiative and responsibility. Or put more simply: good ideas are welcome, but implementation always wins. And the working environment is also impressive. Our client is located in ORATO Offices in Amsterdam, directly on the A10 and close to the Zuidas. A modern and lively office building with a nice coffee bar downstairs and a beautifully furnished office upstairs. A place that fits well with the organization: energetic, ambitious and constantly developing.

  • Why this role is funBecause you:works in a company that is growing rapidly
  • gets a lot of responsibility
  • see immediate results from your work
  • close to product, market and suppliers
  • collaborates with major retailers
  • makes several trips to China every year and visits other international fairs
  • and grows with the organization

And perhaps most importantly: you literally see what you have made in the store.

AI is not a toy hereYou will receive your own business account for ChatGPT and Claude and will join a team that uses AI seriously on a daily basis.Time-consuming work such as comparing quotes, summarizing inspection reports and developing product specifications can be smartly supported by AI where possible. This way you have more time for the real product work. And they go one step further: they are actively building their own internal AI applications for the processes. Your ideas and practical experiences are welcome to make these applications increasingly smarter and more useful.

  • Who are you and what do you bring? You have experience as Product Manager or Category Manager, preferably in import, retail or international trade.
  • So you know how it works when products not only have to be conceived, but also actually produced and delivered.
  • You have experience with production and know what it is like to work with suppliers, factories and production processes.
  • Experience with production in Asia is a strong advantage. We are looking for someone who can operate independently quickly and actually take work off our hands.
  • Ownership is not a buzzword for you, but something that feels obvious. If something is your project, then it really is your project.
  • You speak and write excellent Dutch and English, useful if you interact daily with suppliers, factories and partners in other time zones.
  • You work systematically and accurately, but you can also switch when reality changes faster than the planning.
  • Experience with compliance and quality (such as product safety, certification and quality assurance in the chain) is a strong advantage.
  • You can handle Excel. No artwork required, just make sure the numbers are correct and the overview remains intact.
  • And if you already have experience with production in Asia, that is a bonus. If not, you will learn it automatically.
  • This feature is not remote or hybrid; we consciously work together in the office, because short lines and direct collaboration are essential to us.
