Department Description
With a global footprint, the Universal Music Group Royalty and Copyright Product Team designs, develops, delivers and maintains a number of technical solutions to calculate royalty accountings in a timely and accurate manner to our valued artists. We’re also providing them with an extent and detailed visibility of these earning from various sources of digital incomes.
The team continuously collaborates with our international business teams to deliver innovative solutions as well as supporting best practices and new processes for a better royalty flow.
The Role
The Product Owner is a liaison between our business and development teams, driving software products to success by recognising strategic need and tactical goals. Managing the expectations of our stakeholders across multiple business teams is essential with a solution-oriented focus. The Product Owner will convert those expectations and domain knowledge into clear solution for both business and development teams in a big data team, playing an essential role for collaborative and successful products and becoming the subject matter expert for some of the Royalty & Copyright applications
Key Responsibilities

Be Technical

  • Form up the solution and ensure that it is delivered to the development team in an appropriate form of user stories, process flows and wireframes to enable the development to proceed with minimal analysis support
  • Orchestrate the development by creation of tickets, estimation, sprint management and scrum master
  • Define User Acceptance test plans
  • Play the role of Product Owner in an Agile Methodology
  • Creating Business models incorporating process and data modelling

Be Knowledgeable

  • Develop a sound knowledge of the business domain
  • Acquire subject matter expertise and provide thought leadership in our products and processes, to drive excellence in our services
  • Document and agree requirements with end users

Be Commercial

  • Be a passionate advocate of the product vision
  • Manage prioritisation of the product backlog to be continually aligned to business value

Be Collaborative

  • Build positive relationships with business stakeholders and development teams
  • Facilitate regular meetings with stakeholders to gather requirements, update them on progress and address concerns
  • Communicate project status to stakeholders and team members throughout the course of a project
  • Assist our programme managers in overall project management & delivery
  • Contribute to effective presentations and workshops

Skills and Experience required

Must have

  • Proven track record working as a Business Analyst
  • Demonstrable evidence of analysing and documenting complex business processes / process mapping and managing with stakeholders
  • Ability to form up the problem solution, use of wire-framing and other techniques
  • Ability to work with the development team and ensure on-time delivery (local & offshore)
  • A proven track record in Software Development
  • End to end experience of the product and software lifecycles
  • Proven experience interacting directly with end users
  • Results orientated with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong understanding of Agile project methodology
  • Ability to break solution down into sprints working in an Agile project methodology
  • Experienced in defining Epics and User Stories
  • Strong understanding of key technologies and limitations
  • Able to command respect with Senior Business Managers
  • Ability to drive coherent product development
  • Business focussed
  • Self-starter, strong initiative & leadership

Nice to have

  • Project management experience
  • Music industry business knowledge is highly desirable

Key Behavioural/Personality Traits
You will have a strong track record across the full lifecycle of projects, proving the ability to communicate with business stakeholders, understand business pain points, translate requirements into solutions, and transfer knowledge to an Agile project team for multiple IT products.
