In this role, you will strengthen Ciena’s Product Security organization by managing a dynamic, India‑based security lab that enables product validation, telemetry readiness, and Detection Engineering. This position offers the opportunity to shape a scalable lab environment that supports secure, high‑quality product outcomes. How you will make an impact: • Oversee the stability, availability, and upkeep of the Product Security lab environment across compute, storage, virtualization, and tooling. • Administer and troubleshoot systems, configurations, services, patching, backups, and performance to maintain reliable lab operations. • Manage lab networking, including VLANs, routing, firewall rules, DNS/DHCP, VPN and remote access, certificates, and time synchronization. • Build and maintain customer‑like lab topologies that support accurate testing, validation, and security readiness. • Implement secure access controls and baseline hardening across products and lab systems. • Establish and maintain centralized logging pipelines, ensuring complete, reliable syslog and telemetry for validation activities. • Enable Detection Engineering by ensuring required signals, data quality, and test scenarios are consistently available. The must haves: • 5+ years of experience in lab operations, systems administration, network administration, or similar infrastructure roles. • Strong Linux administration capabilities with the ability to troubleshoot end‑to‑end system issues. • Hands‑on experience with networking fundamentals, including VLANs, routing, and firewall management. • Working knowledge of syslog, telemetry pipelines, or logging technologies. • Experience administering virtualization technologies such as VMware or KVM. • Ability to reproduce issues, capture evidence, and document validation steps with clarity. • Strong communication skills and experience collaborating across security and engineering teams. Nice to haves: • Proficiency in Python, JSON, or scripting for automation and data normalization. • Exposure to basic security testing tools such as Nmap, Wireshark, Burp Suite, or vulnerability scanners. • Experience with containerization technologies, including Docker or Kubernetes. • Prior experience building or maturing a testing lab in a networking or telecom environment. • Familiarity with SIEM tools or advanced logging workflows. • Background in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field. • Strong documentation skills, including creating diagrams, inventories, and runbooks. #LI-MP1 At Ciena, we are committed to building and fostering an environment in which our employees feel respected, valued, and heard.
