FULL-TIME APPAREL ASSOCIATE AT MISSION THRIFT STORE - ST THOMAS

BFM Foundation (Canada) is a national Christian organization with over 50 Mission Thrift Stores across Canada. The net revenue from all Mission Thrift Stores is devoted to Joint Ministry of BFM Foundation (Canada) and Bible League Canada. These funds are used to establish adult literacy programs, provide church planter training, children’s ministry programs, and distribute Bibles in many places around the world. The stores are operated primarily by dedicated volunteers.
Mission Thrift Store St Thomas is currently seeking a part time Apparel Associate who understands and supports the vision and purpose of BFM Foundation (Canada). They must enjoy working with the public, have a friendly, outgoing personality, and strong relational qualities and must display a positive attitude when interacting with customers and maintain a clean appearance. The Associate must understand the need and wants of a thrift store customer and be able to deliver exceptional customer service. This person must be able to provide a clean police record check.

KNOWLEDGE

The Apparel Associate must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:

  • Customer Service and Retail Experience
  • High level of customer service skills
  • Familiarity with non-profits/volunteer organizations
  • Knowledge of store policies and procedures
  • Experience with retail sales and working with volunteers is preferred

SKILLS

Must demonstrate the following skills:

  • Ability to communicate thoughts and ideas clearly and effectively
  • Perform basic math functions to collect payments and make changes
  • Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with staff, volunteers and customers
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced agile environment with grace and good humor
  • Strong conflict resolution skills with a focus on positive outcomes

  • Ability to solve problems with good judgment and make decisions independently

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Extensive work interfacing with people
  • The job is performed indoors in a thrift store retail setting
  • Frequent standing, walking, reaching, and bending
  • Lifting and carrying goods up to 25 lbs. Pulling and or pushing up to 25lbs
  • Must be able to work Monday to Saturday with Tuesday and Sunday off (9am-5pm)

  • Provide exceptional customer service by assisting customers with inquiries and purchases.
  • Upsell products and services to enhance customer satisfaction and drive sales.
  • Communicate effectively with team members to ensure a smooth workflow.
  • Sorting, cleaning and pricing products.
  • Ensure that work areas are clean, clear and meet safety standards.
  • Regularly maintain and tidy products displayed within the sales floor space.
