Description

We are seeking a Production Engineer to join a dynamic and progressive plastic engineering company based in Leeds. Our company operates across diverse sectors, including Automotive, Medical, Water, and Renewable Energy, working on both bespoke and repeat products. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical engineering background, with a solid understanding of production environments, a passion for product development, and a commitment to continuous improvement in manufacturing processes.

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, AND ATTRIBUTES:

Candidates should be apprentice-trained to at least ONC or HNC level in relevant disciplines, or time-served with experience in a similar role.
Strong experience in an engineering or manufacturing environment, with the ability to interpret technical drawings and develop standard operating procedures for fabrication implementation.
Proficiency in using a 3D CAD package (preferably SolidWorks) and the ability to produce detailed production drawings.
Ideally, some experience in electrical engineering, particularly within the automotive sector.

Responsibilities

Lead and manage the development of manufacturing products and processes from concept through to full production, with a focus on delivering right-first time, on-time results.
Transform customer-designed products into manufacturable designs, optimising them for production through value engineering.
Provide support to ongoing production processes and lead continuous improvement initiatives. Undertake projects to ensure existing and future manufacturing methods are optimised for efficiency.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues between engineering and production teams.
Offer engineering support, including prototype creation, productivity improvements, and reduction of non-value-added activities using LEAN manufacturing principles, 6S methodologies, and assist in mentoring of production staff.
Utilise SolidWorks to develop products according to customer specifications in preparation for manufacturing.
Plan the assembly structure and set priorities for fabricated and assembled products.
Design jigs and fixtures to facilitate the safe and efficient production of fabricated and assembled products while maintaining quality standards.
Assist in the creation of BOM’s & SOP’s for production needs, including welding, fabrication, and CNC routing / machining, and work closely with the Technical Manager to deliver monthly reports ensuring projects stay on track and within budget.
