THE OPPORTUNITY:

Are you looking for an opportunity to directly impact plant performance and ultimately company profitability? At Horizon Oil Sands, within Bitumen Production, the Production Engineer, will provide technical expertise for the optimal & continuous operation and improvement of the extraction facilities. To maximize and optimize results aligned with business unit goals in terms of cost, quality or efficiency, the Production Engineer will work with value stream leadership to generate solutions in alignment with sound engineering principles following Lean Six Sigma methodology.

  • Job location: Horizon Sands Site - Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • Shift schedule: 7 days on/7 days off – 12 hour day shift
  • Safety sensitive position: Yes

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Evaluating plant performance based on established operating KPIs including production, product quality, environmental and regulatory requirements, as well as costs
  • Coordinating execution of approved test plans with buy in from operations & other stakeholders and completion of subsequent statistical analysis of results
  • Champion the Management of Change process and take an active role in risk assessments, what-if studies or HazOps required to implement any modifications to existing plant design, control philosophy or operating practices
  • Acting as cross business unit or cross discipline liaison to champion transfer of any information/KPI reporting that could affect plant performance or that would require alternative mode of operation to meet customer requirements
  • Utilize Lean Six Sigma methodology to troubleshoot/optimize equipment operation, instrumentation and plant parameters
  • Providing assistance in commissioning of new systems as they are turned over to operations
Responsibilities

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE:

  • Minimum three to five years post-graduation of related industry experience as process, production or plant engineer
  • BSc or MSc degree in Engineering registered with APEGA
  • Proven track record in problem solving and creative thinking
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts to audience with varied levels of technical background
  • Experience with process simulation tools such as AFT Fathom and SRC PipeFlow. Familiarity with HYSYS is an asset
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Office suite and familiarity with process historian software such as PI is an asset
  • Ability to use statistical tools and/or advance analytics is an asset
  • Class 5 driver’s license and capable of driving F150 trucks or other vehicles of similar size vehicles of similar size
