Job Title:
Production Engineer/Specialist
Summary:
The Production Engineer/Specialist serves as the primary technical resource for assigned production areas, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operations. This role provides daily support to resolve issues, optimize processes, and guide operators while driving improvements in EHS performance, product quality, equipment reliability, and productivity. The position also partners with cross-functional teams to implement capital projects and continuous improvement initiatives that support long-term operational excellence.
Responsibilities Include:

Safety, Health & Environment

  • Champion a zero‑tolerance safety culture; model safe behaviors and ensure strict adherence to Momentive and regulatory EHS requirements.
  • Serve as area owner for Management of Change (MOC); lead pre‑startup safety reviews for new/modified equipment or processes.
  • Maintain and update JSAs; participate in and/or lead PHA, SVA, exposure‑reduction, and other hazard‑mitigation activities.
  • Ensure contractors and employees understand job hazards (fire, explosion, toxic release, etc.) before work begins and throughout execution.

Compliance & Documentation

  • Maintain required operating instructions, MOC records, and other compliance documentation for assigned area.
  • Ensure conformance to applicable company policies and standards (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHS programs) and provide required regulatory/permit reporting data (e.g., SARA, permitted units).

Operations & Continuous Improvement

  • Deliver safe, on‑spec, on‑schedule production aligned with the sales/SIOP plan.
  • Provide daily direction to production personnel; coordinate shift‑to‑shift handoffs and field operations support (including Night Notes / daily continuity).
  • Drive process stability, reliability, and cost reduction using Lean/Six Sigma and structured problem‑solving methods; support VCP and capital/expense projects.
  • Track and improve key performance metrics (e.g., FPY/RFT, OEE, MTBF, POTIF); initiate corrective actions when targets are missed.
  • Partner with Maintenance and Engineering to prioritize work, implement design changes, and ensure equipment health and asset life extension.
  • Support safe scale‑up / introduction of new products in collaboration with Product & Process Technology.

Quality Assurance

  • Ensure products meet QC specifications; evaluate process data (LIMS, analytical results) and lead/assist in investigations of OOS, SMI, and quality incidents.
  • Participate in Quality Forward Look reviews and implement preventive / corrective actions.

Training, Communication & Change Management

  • Develop, update, and deliver SOP, skills, and qualification training for operators and contractors.
  • Communicate operational changes, risks, and short‑term modifications; maintain strong coordination across functions (Operations, EHS, Engineering, Finance, SIOP).

Audit, Investigation & Improvement Follow‑Up

  • Participate in internal, customer, and regulatory audits, close out findings.
  • Lead or contribute to root cause analyses for unplanned events, near misses, EHS or quality deviations, and implement sustainable fixes.

Cost & Productivity

  • Monitor and optimize production costs; collaborate with Manufacturing Finance and SIOP to address yield variances and cost drivers.

Perform additional duties as assigned to support safe, compliant, reliable plant operations.
Qualifications:

The following are required for the role

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, or related field, with 3+ years of production or process experience in the chemical industry OR High School Diploma/GED with at least 5+ years of direct experience working in chemical production.
  • Strong commitment to safety with solid knowledge of EHS regulations and best practices.
  • Proven problem-solving and analytical skills, including process data analysis, statistical evaluation, and troubleshooting of complex chemical systems.
  • Understanding of business drivers and cost awareness.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate teams, manage change, and deliver measurable improvements.
  • Highly motivated and accountable with a strong sense of ownership for production performance.
  • Ability to lead and supervise a diverse workforce, including contractors.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of SAP, DCS systems, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

The following are preferred skills for the role

  • Experience in six sigma, SAP, ISO system is a plus
  • Practical experience with process optimization
  • Basic understanding of chemical plant operations, equipment and EHS guidelines
  • Experience in new production and technical development of new process

What We Offer:
Base Pay Range: $90,500 - $133,100
The actual salary offered is determined by factors including but not limited to education, experience, skill sets, and geography. Local geographic pay differentials may not be reflected in the above pay range and will be discussed with you by a member of the HR team when applicable.
