We are looking for a Focused Shop Manager - Weekend Shift to join our Cambridge, ON team!
The Weekend Shift Focused Shop Manager is responsible for the day-to-day activities of five business units in all aspects of quality, cost, safety and schedule. This role manages all aspects of planning, manufacturing engineering, labour relations through the collective agreement as well as implement continuous improvement activities to improve all aspects of shop performance. This position is required to work Friday, Saturday and Sunday (11-hour shifts), with an occasional additional day, as needed.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Delivery Performance

  • Achieve and maintain on-time delivery performance by monitoring production plans, schedules, establishing priorities, and making appropriate recommendations to manpower and capacity planning as required.
  • Advise on alternate work centers and investigate parallel manufacturing opportunities, coordinate facility / workforce sharing when possible and make sublet recommendations as necessary.
  • Monitor and adjust workforce requirements.

Production Method/Cost Review

  • Review current production methods and costs and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Develop, update and maintain favourable cost center budgets.
  • Review load-boards and establish cost center workforce requirements.
  • Maximize production opportunities with high degree of labour utilization.
  • Participation in quarterly budget reviews.
  • Achieve or surpass yearly established revenue commitments.

Company and Customer Standards

  • Review and monitor all non-conformance conditions and interface with the Project Managers and Quality Engineers to ensure corrective measures are implemented to avoid recurrence.
  • Work closely with Quality Assurance to identify recurring problems and ensure timely resolution.
  • Instruct subordinates regarding BWXT policies relating to quality as well as monitor and ensure their compliance with BWXT standards.

Safety

  • Ensure monthly safety meetings are held and documented.
  • Work with EHS to ensure appropriate Personal Protective Equipment and testing is maintained.
  • Participate in EHS Management meetings and training.
  • Stop any unsafe work practices, and unsafe behaviours.
  • Support achievement of yearly safety targets.
  • Ensure Supervisors complete behaviour-based observations.
  • Ensure Supervisors complete all First Aid and incident investigations within 24 hours of occurrence.
  • Ensure Supervisors complete all direct report safety training in a timely manner.
  • Ensure Supervisors enforce strict enforcement of all safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure Supervisors maintain a clean / organized production environment.

Collective Agreement Administration

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the collective agreement and ensure compliance.
  • Maintain a professional working relationship with shop workforce and union executives.
  • Consult and coordinate on potential Labour Relations issues with HR.
  • Respond to questions/concerns in a timely manner.

Employee Management

  • Perform annual performance reviews as well as review and identify staff level, making appropriate decisions to support budget and workload.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

  • Community College Diploma or equivalent trades certificate.
  • 10 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient with computer use including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel.
  • Experience using ERP systems is an asset.
  • 5 years’ supervisory or other leadership experience.
  • Knowledge of product, current planning and scheduling techniques, collective agreement, OSHA rules and regulations, workload allocation process is considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of the Employment Standards Act.
