Job Description The Engineering Technician performs assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed, selects or adapts standard procedures or equipment, using fully applicable precedents, receives initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer as needed, performs recurring work independently. Work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions. Typical duties: a. Constructing components, subunits, or simple models or adapts standard equipment; may troubleshoot and correct malfunctions b. Following specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment. c. Conducting various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement, selecting, preparing, and operating standard test equipment and records test data; d. Extracting and compiling a variety of engineering data from field notes, manuals, lab reports, etc., processing data, identifying errors or inconsistencies, selecting methods of data presentation. e. Assisting in design modification by compiling data related to design, specifications, and materials that are pertinent to specific items of equipment or component parts; developing information concerning previous operational failures and modifications, and using judgment and initiative to recognize inconsistencies or gaps in data and seek sources to clarify information. The hourly rate for this position is set by the Dept of Labor and is not negotiable. Current rate is $28.79/hr (Tech III) / $35.64/hr (Tech IV). Job leveling will be determined during the interview. This position is located in scenic and historic Southern Maryland in the St. Mary's County Technology Corridor adjacent to the Patuxent River Naval Air Station. There is no monetary relocation assistance budgeted for this position. Applicants must be currently residing in or state willingness to relocate self to St. Mary's County, Maryland or surrounding areas. Required Education, Experience, & Skills High school diploma and 5-8 of related experience Ability to use various power tools including drills, drill presses, core drills, saws, equipment to pull cable, an assortment of wire cutters and strippers, soldering irons, high-press tools, voltage meters, ammeters and ohmmeters. Ability to use Microsoft Office, Visio, Excel and Word Ability to read and interpret drawings/blue prints and perform work to specifications Ability and willingness to travel at least 25% Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills Cable Fabrication Certification IPC-J001F Knowledgeable in ISO-9001 and AS9100 standards Pay Information This position is covered by a wage law called the McNamara-O'Hara Service Contract Act (SCA). The wage range for this position is determined by the Wage and Hour Division of the Department of Labor on a contract-by-contract basis.
