JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Proven senior-level management experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally within paint, milling, or mixing operations
  • Excellent communication and people leadership skills
  • Strong coaching and influencing capabilities to lead change effectively
  • Confident in budgetary control and IT-literate
  • Demonstrated success in applying LEAN manufacturing and engineering improvement practices
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in a fast-paced, multi-batch production environment
  • Strong understanding of current regulations and continuous improvement methodologies
  • A team player with the experience and capabilities to contribute to senior site leadership

Responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE

As Production Manager, you will lead the production team in delivering safe, efficient, and compliant operations at our Leyland site. Your primary responsibility will be to manage performance against safety, productivity, quality, and cost targets while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence. You will also play a strategic role in shaping the site’s production strategy and supporting wider site leadership goals.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the day-to-day management of the Production department, ensuring full compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards
  • Plan, organise, and control production activities to meet operational KPIs
  • Implement and maintain Standard Operating Procedures and training programs
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives aligned with AkzoNobel ALPS and HSE maturity
  • Monitor and control operational and capital expenditure within budget
  • Ensure timely and effective execution of daily Tier 1 and Tier 2 meetings
  • Develop and communicate the site’s Production strategy in alignment with AkzoNobel corporate standards
  • Stay abreast of relevant UK regulations and ensure best practices are followed
  • Recruit, coach, appraise, and develop team members, promoting a high-performance culture
  • Handle team management activities including training, absence, shift patterns, and performance management
  • Promote effective problem-solving at the appropriate operational levels with clear escalation processes
