Description:
Position: Production Manager
Post Date: January 15, 2025
Start Date: Immediate (Position open until filled)
The Regina Symphony Orchestra (RSO) seeks a dynamic Production Manager to oversee the technical and logistical aspects of our concerts and events. This key role ensures our performances meet the highest artistic and technical standards, contributing to the RSO’s mission of strengthening community through compelling live orchestral experiences. This unique position offers extended benefits, including significant time off during the summer.
Key Responsibilities:
Concert & Event Production:
- Plan, manage, oversee, and communicate all technical aspects relating to RSO productions inclusive of lighting, sound, and staging; site management for offsite and outdoor events; and tour management for run outs.
- Manage production contracts, technical riders, and venue bookings.
- Supervise transportation and maintenance of orchestral instruments and equipment.
- Collaborate with venue staff and manage staging crews.
- Establish and manage production budgets.
- Review advance contracts and technical riders with guest artists and/or their agents.
- Oversee and ensure compliance with workplace health & safety requirements.
- Establish and manage detailed budgets for all RSO productions and presentations.
- Entry of production details into the RSO’s OPAS software.
Stage Management:
- Ensure proper set-up and seating arrangement for orchestral and small-ensemble concerts and events.
- Assist in anticipating and managing logistical problems.
- Ensure optimal working conditions for musicians and address issues like temperature, lighting or safety.
- Coordinate load-in and load-out schedules.
- Assist technical staff in all concert production activities as assigned, including operation of lighting and sound equipment when no local stage crew is available.
- Load and unload vehicles for local transportation or run outs and transfer stage equipment for all services.
- Maintain inventory of all equipment, making periodic checks on conditions and performing minor repairs or arranging necessary repairs if needed.
- Contribute to the professional appearance of the orchestra on stage.
Qualifications and Skills:
Required:
- Demonstrated success and experience in staging professional productions.
- Knowledge of lighting, audio, and video equipment and their operation.
- Experience in budgeting for professional productions.
- Proficient in MS Office applications.
- Ability to lift, carry and move up to 50 lbs.
- An excellent communicator, a team player, and proven ability to work well with creative and artistic persons.
- Ability to multitask well in a deadline-oriented environment.
- Minimum two years of orchestra, theater, or live arts production experience, or equivalent transferrable skills gained through relevant experience.
Preferred:
- A knowledge and interest in classical music.
- Working knowledge of orchestral instruments and orchestral seating conventions.
- Knowledge of IATSE regulations.
- Effective interpersonal problem solving.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Additional General Requirements:
1. The Production Manager is required to hold a valid driver’s license from the Province of Saskatchewan.
2. The Production Manager is required to provide a vehicle for work purposes and maintain proper insurance on the vehicle.
3. The Production Manager is required to work evenings and weekends.
4. The position requires the successful candidate to be within a reasonable commuting distance to/from Regina due to the onsite nature of the work.
