ABOUT THE JOB

At The Urban Fermentery, we craft small-batch, high-quality fermented foods, supplying both our own brand and private-label products for leading retailers. We are seeking a dedicated Production Operator to join our team and support our growing production lines.
This role is central to ensuring our products are made to the highest quality, safely and efficiently. You’ll be working 10-hour shifts, 4 days a week, every second week, providing a great balance between work and time off.

Job Type: Permanent
Pay: £15.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35 – 50 per week

Responsibilities
  • Operating and monitoring production equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and consistent output
  • Carrying out quality checks on ingredients, in-process product, and finished goods (codes, sealing, weights, packaging integrity)
  • Demonstrating a strong commitment to Health & Safety by role-modelling safe behaviours, challenging unsafe practices, rectifying unsafe conditions, and escalating issues when support is needed
  • Escalating any food safety breaches or quality issues, ensuring that non-conforming products are identified, held, and investigated appropriately
  • Supporting the Quality Management System by ensuring all controls, checks, and procedures are completed accurately and consistently
  • Upholding Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), hygiene, PPE, and company standards at all times
  • Role-modelling a “Clean as You Go” culture and ensuring workplace organisation and visual standards are maintained
  • Supporting the Technical team in responding to audits, non-conformances, and consumer complaints with corrective and preventative actions
  • Contributing to Short Interval Control Reviews to identify improvements, assign actions, and coordinate resources
  • Analysing production and asset performance to drive improvements in efficiency, yields, and equipment utilisation
  • Undertaking basic fault-finding and rectification on equipment, escalating issues when needed
  • Ensuring equipment is well maintained through compliance with cleaning schedules and validation checks
  • Driving continuous improvement by suggesting, implementing, and sharing best practices across shifts
  • Bringing energy and enthusiasm to the team, acting quickly on issues, and encouraging others to do the same
