OVERVIEW

This position works 12-hour shifts or 8-hour shifts that rotate shift(s) (day and night or 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts) on a regular rotation including weekends and holidays.
The Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily operations within a chemical manufacturing unit, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production. This role leads a team of union employees, promoting a collaborative work environment while maintaining adherence to labor agreements, HSE regulatory policies, and company policies. The supervisor acts as a key liaison between operations leadership and frontline staff to execute production goals and continuous improvement initiatives.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  1. Thorough understanding and adherence to safety, health, and environmental rules and regulations.
  2. Strong communication skills
  3. Proficient user of computer equipment including Microsoft Products, ERP Software, and DCS systems.
  4. Experience in a union environment\
  5. Strong understanding of chemical manufacturing processes and equipment
  6. Familiarity with distributed control systems and product software
  7. Knowledge of OSHA regulations, Hazardous materials handling (HAZMAT), and emergency response protocols.
  8. Proficiency with ERP systems, Microsoft Suite, and production planning tools.
  9. Ability to interpret technical documentation (SOPs)

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  1. Education: Associate or Bachelor of Science in Engineering Degree, Industrial Technology, Business Management, or related field is preferred
  2. Experience: 2+ years’ experience in supervisory/leadership position and 3+ years’ experience in a chemical manufacturing plant. Experience leading a unionized workforce is highly desirable. Must be available to work and provide coverage for rotating shifts, including days, nights, holidays, weekends, etc.
  3. Language Skills: Verbal and written fluency in English

  4. Physical Requirements:

  • Candidate will need to pass a Fit for duty examination, a respirator medical clearance examination and a respirator fit test. Must be able to wear a respirator during strenuous physical activity when needed.
  • Ability to meet the requirements of the hearing conservation program.
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time, climb, and regularly kneel, squat, bend, and stoop, twist, and reach overhead with repetitive motions.
  • Ability to lift and/or carry up to 55 pounds without assistance.
  • Ability to climb stairs while carrying containers weighing up to 20 pounds.

Responsibilities
  1. Implement all Elementis safety management controls, programs, and policies. Enforces safety and housekeeping standards for area to maintain plant standards.
  2. Ensure subordinate’s activities follow all Federal, State and Local laws, regulations, and environmental operating permits (OSHA, EPA, EEO, NPDES, etc.).
  3. Supervises and directs the production team to meet operational needs. Coordinate operations within the area of responsibility and with operations in other areas of the facility.
  4. Provide coverage to relieve other production supervisors during vacations, sick time, etc.
  5. Communicate with shift personnel to ensure effective two-way communication occurs between management and employees.
  6. Plan and implement operational training of peers and subordinates.1. Assure all regulatory and refresher training (for shift employees) is completed according to published plans and schedules.
  7. Responsible for completing review/sign-off of employee training programs.
  8. Coordinates annual reviews of assigned procedures/policies, including operating manuals, ensuring appropriate accuracy, etc.
  9. Participate in the Site HSE Committee and all other HSE programs.
  10. Responsible for area operations during off-hours. Advises all parties, superiors, peers, and subordinates, on all changes or situations that influence safety, the environment, or production.
  11. Promote performance for all employees. Specifies to the operator acceptable work habits and if substandard, retrains, corrects, or initiates disciplinary action.
  12. Motivates all employees to perform above-standard work by recognizing and rewarding such performance and safety habits.
  13. Adhere to site contingency plan including emergency response protocols. Perform emergency first aid, fire protection, and/or HAZMAT response to secure the situation until first responders arrive.
  14. Must be an effective communicator regarding plant operational conditions.
  15. Responsible for finding coverage for operators who will not be to work on their regular shift time due to sickness, accidents, family emergencies, etc.
  16. Maintain employee documentation and records.
  17. Responsible for approving and verifying timecards.
  18. Responsible for implementing coaching/disciplinary actions as defined by the Plant Rules, the Collective Bargaining Agreement, or other violations of plant or company policies.
  19. Ensure completion of daily Title V inspections. Track and notify HSE department of any deviations during the inspection(s).
  20. Leads and assists with troubleshooting issues including but not limited to HSE, downtime or output reduction events, quality failures, or Key Performance Indicator (KPI) deviations.
  21. All other tasks assigned by management.
