Role Overview
We are looking for a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer with a mechanical bias to join a thriving food production facility in Peterborough. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring machinery reliability, supporting production operations through both proactive maintenance and emergency repair work. Working from a high-standard, accredited facility, you will be integral to maintaining the smooth and efficient running of all production and service equipment. This is a hands-on position ideal for an engineer who thrives in a fast-paced, high-care environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out reactive and planned maintenance across all production and packing areas, minimising downtime and maximising plant efficiency.
  • Complete risk assessments ahead of all maintenance tasks, ensuring all safety measures are implemented.
  • Maintain and operate site service equipment including boilers, air compressors, chilled water systems, and effluent treatment plants.
  • Deliver consistent scheduling and record-keeping of all maintenance activities including inspections, repairs, and services.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on loss reduction and operational efficiency.
  • Assist in machinery upgrades, installations, and the relocation of existing assets.
  • Conduct thorough root cause analyses and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrences.
  • Work to high engineering and food safety standards aligned with industry certifications.
  • Embrace a clean-as-you-go approach, following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) at all times.
  • Collaborate with production teams to ensure seamless communication and minimal disruption during maintenance.

Required Attributes for a Multi-Skilled Engineer

  • Dual-skilled with strong mechanical knowledge and competency in electrical engineering.
  • Proven experience working in a manufacturing or food production environment (2+ years).
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills with a methodical approach to fault finding.
  • Confident working both independently and collaboratively with wider teams.
  • Excellent communication abilities — able to engage effectively across all levels of the business.
  • Competent IT and administrative skills for maintaining detailed engineering records.
  • Commitment to high standards of quality, food safety, and workplace safety practices.
  • Full UK driving licence.
